Running my first 5k in the a.m. I am so excited! I wanna keep my pace to 11.5-12mpm and am kinda nevous about running with people I don't want to wear down cuz I think I should be going faster. Right now I run alone or with my wife so any tips to help with this is appreciated. Also, is it ok to run with my iPhone I use my app Nike+gps when I run to keep pushing when I drag seeing the distance helps me out a lot.

    I recently posted a thread for first-timers.

As for the iPhone, you may want to ask the race director. You can usually email them if the race is on a website. Some don't care, and some DO!

    Good luck and have FUN!

Great job! I worried at my first 5k as well over the same things, except I was used to a treadmill.

Best advice I can give is to listen to the same thing you usually listen to, find your groove, forget about everyone else... As you near the finish line, start picking people off and pass them!

You'll do just fine :) the important thing is to finish!!!

Way to go! I'm running my 3rd 5K tomorrow morning!

As far as running with your iPhone, that usually depends on the race. Some race directors allow it, some don't...for safety reasons, I guess...just ask at the sign-in table in the morning and they should be able to tell you.

And as far as everyone else...don't worry about them! Your only competition is you. My goal for each race is #1 to finish and #2 to beat my previous time. It doesn't matter how fast you are, but that you are getting out there and doing something to make a better life for you and your family. You're gonna ROCK IT tomorrow!

Be sure to post a thorough race report on Monday. I never grow tired of reading people's race reports, and they will surely inspire others.

I ran it in 34:58! Felt amazing my fastest 3 miles yet. I started off pretty fast and within a 1/4 mile found my grove pretty easy from there on. Next up is running one with my wife she is starting c25k soon due to a knee injury from running.

Great job. Didnt it go faster than you thought? I recently ran my first one as well. It was impossible not to compete with the others to me and I thought I was going to lose breakfast with about a half mile left. A lto more fun than I thought though.
(For the record- i smoked you- ZING!)
