76lbs in 2 years, counting calories, moving my butt and still enjoying food, cooking and life.

    ?

Depends whether your counting is accurate and matching what you put in your mouth and keeping you in a deficit.

You should definitely check out the Success Stories section of the message boards for inspirational stories. Plenty of people have lost weight without exercise. Do you mind me asking why you don't want to consider exercise and only count calories? I know many are unable to do a lot of exercise, but that shouldn't hold them back from their goals. Counting works for many.

It's the ONLY way to lose weight. Every single diet plan is just a way to ensure your calorie intake is low enough to lose weight.

So yes, the 41lbs I have lost so far has been done by counting calories, albeit I've done it knowingly and not with a plan that uses points or a similar system.

ETA: I exercise because I enjoy it and the added bonus is I can eat more.

I lost 155 pounds in less than 9 months counting calories. It works. Trust the process.

Absolutely! I hate having to cut a bunch of things out of my diet indefinitely. I just have to space them out (or eat less per day) so that the numbers come out right. Easier said than done, but still it's wonderful how simple it is.

You should probably ask how many people have stories of failure while counting calories, are angry at the process of eating less and moving more, yet, still use this a calorie counting website forum. Those would be more fun to read. <3

There's a success stories subforum that might be of value to you, OP.

A calorie deficit is required to lose weight. Counting calories is one of several possible methods to achieve a calorie deficit. Myfitnesspal's food diary counts calories for you. If you use it correctly, you'll lose weight. It's simple, but not always easy. (Even though it's a simple principle of calories in<calories out, doesn't mean it's easy to stick to allotted calories, in the face of temptation.)

I've lost 45 pounds by counting calories - twice; the second time, helped by MFP, happily entering my 16th month of maintenance, I'm getting more and more confident I'm going to keep them off for good.

Yup last time I did this I lost 20 lb by calorie counting alone. I didnt eat the healthiest food and I didnt exercise, but I still lost the weight and got to my goal.
Trying to pay more attention to my nutrients this time around, for the sake of being healthier overall, but in terms of weight loss it's down to calories.
