Hunger

Okay so in the last couple of weeks I have really upped my weekend workouts. Today I spent 91 minutes working out burning just over 1200 calories. I've come home, had a bunch more water and made myself a wrap filled with chicken, lettuce, pepper, light cheese and tzatziki sauce. I also 5 pickle slices. And as I sit here writing this I feel really hungry still!!! The same thing happened last weekend. When I ate last weekend feeling like this I ended up totally derailed. I don't want to eat really but would like the hunger pangs to go away.

Try some beans, lentils, and nuts. Fiber is good for making you feel more full.

You burned a heck of a lot of calories working out. Of course you're going to be hungry! Don't feel guilty at all. Eat more; your body wants it and can afford it after burning 1200 cals.

Hi Steph.. I feel your pain. I also ran today and had a high protein breakfast and still feel hungry. Here is a tip from my Dietician who is helping me with my weight loss ... get distracted with something else.. if your focused on something other than the diet and food you're stomach will soon tell your brain it's not hunger anymore. remember it takes 30 minutes for that message to go to the head.

Other ideas...each low calorie and carb controlled snacks like sugar free jello (free of calories), clear soup, 4 oz of ruit (15 grams of carb), 8 oz skim milk (12 grams of carb), etc.

BTW - you are an inspiration with your tremendous weight loss. I have a goal to lose 19 pounds and am 5 pounds into the loss . It is really harddEnjoy your day!!!

I always find that i'm super hungry after a good work out. I try to eat something protein/fibre rich before and after the workout and if I still feel exhausted hungry later on then I eat a banana or peanut butter on toast or something. I always found that if I didn't feed my body after these intense workouts I get really really drained days afterwards and can barely function! (seriously, picking my arms up to answer the telephone was hard!) I figure that eating good foods when my body is crying out for it is better than avoiding it and binging and bad foods later on.

I don't do huge amounts of exercise like the two of you, but I did read something similar that said if you know you will be doing (for example) a 600 calorie exercise, you should PLAN to eat 300 calories prior to fuel your body and then 300 calories after to replenish it. They used peanut butter or turkey on ww bread as an example.

When I am hungry between meals, I like whole grains, real fruit, nuts, Watermelon is in season now and if you weigh your portions you can eat a WHOLE lot for only 100 calories! Same with strawberries and raspberries and others, I am sure. And downing a glass or two of water with that will really fill me up.....I just have to remember to do it....new habits, you know!

I guess because we are so focused on losing weight that food has become the enemy. So we fight to avoid eating it. But we also must remember, too that food feeds our BODY and it is necessary to have good quality foods in order for it to function properly. I am coming late to eating (most of) my exercise calories and so far, so good! It is a new philosophy with me and a real Godsend so I can focus on other things throughout the day. Just adding 300 calories does miracles for my appetite control! I have learned that it is okay to eat a much bigger (almost 400 calorie) breakfast to start my day.

Thanks for all the advice and support. In the end I drank 200ml of juice and distracted myself till it went away. :flowerforyou:
