Going for a Chinese on Saturday and don't want to spoil things. Anyone know the best things to eat to minimise calories?

Get what you like and eat half of it and take the rest home. Eat less rice and/or ask for more veggies. I swear the best broccoli I've ever had is at Chinese places. :) Even fast food Chinese usually has a "diet" section of non-fried items that can be lighter on calories.

Be prepared for the possibility of temporary water weight gain because of sodium. I avoid the scales for a few days after while it goes away.

Eta: You could also either eat lighter other meals that day or do a nice brisk 30 minute walk or something to get some extra calories to enjoy your meal.

A waiter or waitress can often help make healthy menu choices.

    Try pre-logging.

The Won Ton soup is about perfect.

Go for the stir fried veggies and be light with the rice.

North American Chinese is heavy with fats, sugars, and salt.

Just order what you want and keep in mind how caloric it is. That knowledge should enough to help you keep your portions in check.

Keep in mind breaded/fried items will be higher in calories. Ask for extra veggies. Minimize rice if you don't want to spend calories on it. Ask for sauce on the side.

Egg drop soup is an excellent choice. STEAMED dumplings (not pan-fried) would also be delicious. Opt for brown rice, if they have it. Keep in mind that most Chinese dishes use tons of oil--whether the food is breaded or not--so look for food items that are not necessarily cooked in a wok.

Thanks for all your tips. Pre logging is a must I think. No crispy duck for me :-(

It depends on what you mean by Chinese....

We cook Chinese all the time. Favourite Sichuan meal is fish fragrant Tofu/Fish, rice and water spinach or luffa. Now, if it is more "western" Chinese then just limit breaded and deep fried dishes and you will be fine.

This. Chinese has been my go-to for probably 20 years for a "pick up" or "I don't feel like cooking" meal.
