Hey I am new and looking for some friends on here for some support! I've been dealing with herniated disks for about 5 months now..terrible pain..and I can't exercise until the inflammation goes down. Sometimes I feel like I eat because I'm so depressed about my back! Has anyone come over anything like this?? Any tips would help!!

Thanks-Melissa

I have 2 herniated disks in my back. I've had them since I was a junior in college. I have to be careful to not do anything to make them flare up. If you're in a lot of pain, a frozen bag of peas is best!!! Twenty minutes on and twenty mins off. When you're back starts feeling better I would only do exercises that do not require heavy impact, like the elliptical machine. Be very careful with running, jumping, anything of that nature. I hope you get to feeling better soon!

I'm still rehabbing a Disc Protrusion from 3 months ago now. It's been frustrating. I went to an Orthopedist and a Physical Therapist for treatment. You may want to do the same, I'm not sure how you should handle a herniation.

I am sorry to hear about your injuries! I hurt my right knee exercising (the ultimate slap in the face!!) and now the left knee is following suite! It is SO hard to do what you know you have to, knowing your body isn't cooperating!! I wear knee braces to help support them but it isn't the greatest :( I wish I had better advice for your back.

I hear you.I had knee surgery in feb, repair not replacement.i`m limited to ex due to inflammation at times.I can swim 10-15 min every other day.Yes,it gets frustrating as hell.I was up to 60 min of ex or more daily.
And yeah,I have been binging at times, feeling sorry for myself.
Things will get beter, but patience isn`t my strong point.
good luck to you.Try to stay focus on your goals, and not get to down.My motto is 1 day at a time.

What impacts you then? Is it if you bend over and arch your back? Or is it more of an issue when you extend your back?

It is hard to incorporate exercise with injuries...I have a bad knee had surgery to correct problem did not do much to help :ohwell: ...so I do water aerobics...it burns calories and I'm able to tolerate it without pain or discomfort. Check with your physician and see if this is an option for you...hope you get better soon...

Thanks everyone..I actually ended up getting surgery..I'm in recovery but doing great! The disks were dangerously compressing my spinal nerve! Can't wait to get back to exercising!!!! :)

I had three discs surgically repaired in Feb. Getting stronger slowly, but there is residual nerve damage that is holding me up. Good luck!! LMK if there is anything I can do for you!!

all I can say is watch what you eat in the mean time. I couldn't walk much for a few years because of a military injury, and I got really big because of it. good luck recovering, and so you know I have an old friend that shattered his back and was back running in no time so keep your chin up :)
