Looking for college age student that might be able to give me support. I have to eat dinning hall food which as everyone knows isn't good and I also have cellaic disease so I'm allergic to wheat. Anyone out there want to give me advice or become my friend.

I am not in college anymore but I remember that dining hall food and oh boy is that a challenge. My dining hall always had a hot entry or a couple of them (you know, floating in those hot water trays) and then there was ice cream, sugary cereals, and the yummy peanut butter (full of added sugar and preservatives!) with bread.

I pretty much lived on that stuff because the hot food almost always looked gross - and the only times it looked ok was when it was stuff like nachos.

I don't know how you are handling dining hall food with celiacs, isn't it tough? You would have to avoid nearly everything - like I can't imagine that they are very good about making sure flour and other gluten containing items don't have contact with the other stuff.

If they have a salad bar, I like to eat lowfat cottage cheese and fruit - the cottage cheese is tasty and filling with lots of protein. If you can cook for yourself a little bit, eggs are easy to do in lots of ways, mixed with veggies (omelettes, fritattas).

My mom was convinced that I was gluten intolerant or had celiacs so I researched it a lot for a while. I don't THINK that's my problem but I know how incredibly hard it is to have and manage that disease.

thanks! I well have to try some cottage cheese. I do know they have that on the salad bars. But yeah eating in the dinning hall with celaic disease is hard. I have a special meal plan so they make meals for me alone. which is usually rice or some kinda potato and a meat. but yeah Its hard because they do make gluten free bread and pastas which are much higher then regular pasta's and such. So I've been trying to stock things in my refrigerator in my dorm room that are healthy.

you'll have to ask them to see if the cottage cheese is lowfat or not - I assume it is. I like to get these little cups of fruit from the grocery store too - Del Monte Fruit Naturals. The pineapple chunks is 140 calories and all of them come in a cup of fresh unsweetened juice (doublecheck other varieties for added sugar).

I also really like hummus, I like the sabra brand hummus which is gluten free now (didn't used to be) but brands can vary widely so before you buy one check. Taste varies WILDLY between brands so if you buy one brand and don't like it don't give it up until you try a couple others. You can use it as a dip for veggies or with crackers or as a spread on bread or dolloped on a pita.

I like to keep those 2 things plus the low fat cottage cheese, low-fat milk (nonfat isn't SO many fewer calories that its worth it IMO) and cereal in my fridge for quick dinners after work. My SO and I don't cook really so its either takeout or meals like that for 90% of our food.

Also can you eat corn or no? Corn torillas are kind of a life saver. just a little cheese melted on one with some hot sauce (if you like hot sauce) is pretty good.
