Any other swimmers here?

I just started swimming a month ago after an injury meant I could no longer run (which I'm bummed about, I love running) Starting to really enjoy swimming now and noticing changes in my body already, I'm up to an hour in the pool 5 times a week :)
So anyone else who only swims for fitness? How long have you been swimming and how has it changed you? Doesn't seem to be much discussion about it here.

I am learning to swim right now. Back stroke is my best stroke so far and I am aiming for 1km by the end of the month.
I go to the pool 5 days a week at the moment, 2-3 days are learning to swim with snorkel gear. I do lift 3x a week also.
I am hoping by summer I will be proficient enough to make swimming my sole exercise.

If you do a search in groups there is a swimming group that you could join. You would probably find that more satisfying than searching for threads.

    Cheers, h.

I try to swim three times a week. (I have a cold this week, so no pool for me!) After my back surgery it was pretty much the only exercise I could do. I have permanent nerve damage on my left side, so my once-upon-a-time textbook stroke is gone and I fear I look more like a half-drowning hippopotamus in the water.
I alternate strokes- breaststroke, backstroke, crawl, with the breast-stroke making up most of my laps at this point. Because of the nerve damage, I tend to 'lane drift' in my crawl and am always clipping the lane-dividers.

I try to get to the pool right at 1 pm so I can get in as the lunch work-out crowd is leaving and before the after-work crowd comes in, so I can get a lane to myself. When our gym was under the previous owners, lane-sharing wasn't allowed because it's only a 20 x 14 meter pool, but the new owners took down all the rules, reset it to five very narrow lanes instead of 4 lanes (and didn't repaint the lane lines on the bottom of the pool.) I wish it made financial sense for me to go back to my old swim club!

There is a great group of swimmers of all abilities and skill levels here!! Search "Swimmers!" (I'm not sure how to get the link in a post...)

It's a great group of people-encouraging, supportive, informative, and funny. As a new swimmer (also former runner), I have learned a lot and gotten to the pool on those days when I'd rather not because I know my swim buddies are getting there too. Always looking for people to add to the group. Come on over! (all of you!!)
