Never too late to start

I've never been one to enjoy exercising for pleasure...but after several back injections and the prospect of back surgery I realized I needed to do something...a year ago I started walking in the evenings, then last August I hired a personal trainer. At our first meeting he asked what was my main goal. I said I wanted to get fit and to be toned. He replied, "you can't tone what you don't have." As hurtful as it sounded...he was right, even though I was thin, I had no muscle anywhere on my body.

In October, I was at a business conference and discovered my association was co-sponsoring a marathon and half marathon. Without thinking, I signed up for the half. I have run a few 5ks in my life ... to say I hate running is to put it mildly. Last week I started working out with a running group here in Houston; I'm not fast, and the only reason I didn't collapse was because of the strength training I have been doing the last six month. I'm starting to feel a little confident in my abilities, and I now have muscle that can be toned!

Since working out, I am not experiencing the pain in my back I once did. I am not an exercise nazi, but I am appreciating the benefits.

Welcome! I've had the same experience as you- thin but not as fit as I'd like to be. You have the right attitude to keep achieving your goals!

@Silverkitty777 thank you for the kind words. We are all in this together, aren't we.

@JustSomeEm June 5 in San Diego, The Rock and Roll run. But I'm doing some 10Ks locally to get me ready. It's a bit ambitious, but I think I can do it. I also got SCUBA certified a few months ago, so my body is wondering what the heck is next...

Your muscles still can't be toned. Muscles have tone but you cannot "tone" them or change their tone.
