Hello, I'm 22 years old, female, 5'4'', and currently weigh 222lbs. I have been on this journey for the past 2 months.
I exercise 6 days a week and take 10,000-13,000 steps daily. MFP has me at 1200 calories per day, and I do not eat back my exercise calories.
However, lately I feel that 1200 are too few calories, as I feel hungry.
Also, for the last 2-3 days, I've been feeling really, really hungry and therefore I've ended up over my goal. I have been thinking about upping my calories.
Any suggestion as to how many calories would be reasonable for a person of my size and age?
Please help. Thanks in advance. :)

At your weight anything less than 1900 calories would work to help you lose weight - so don't worry if you have to up your intake. It's only as you lose weight that you then have to continually reassess your target.

For comparison, I'm 40, 5'5'', I do an average of about 8000 steps a day and no other exercise, starting weight was 185 lbs. I eat about 1,500 to 1,600 a day (and I eat more and walk more on weekends) and I have been losing a steady 1lb per week. I wouldn't last a day on 1,200 calories.

Are you set to sedentary? You seem lightly active to me.

What activity level did you select on MFP?

How much do you get for exercise calories?

You definitely should be able to eat more than 1200 calories. Try eating half of your exercise calories back. And make sure you aren't set to sedentary.

Yes, I am set to sedentary; I get around 700-800, according to the mfp database, but that seems hugely overestimated to me, so I don't eat those back.

You need to eat some of those exercise calories back, or set your activity to lightly active.

Working out 6 days a week and getting 10-13k steps a day seems more than "lightly active" to me, ESPECIALLY if those workouts are not on a treadmill where your workout would contribute to the 10-13k steps. 1200 is way too low, I think you should bump it up to 1500. The BMR calculator says if you were in a coma you'd still be burning 1818 calories per day. So even if you ate 1500 calories a day and didn't get out of bed, you'd still be on track to lose a pound every 11 days. I'd guess your activity level would put you around 2500 calories a day, so even at 1500 thats still a 7,000 deficit per week which = 2lbs.

No, the steps are not from workouts; I like walking and take those steps doing everyday stuff like walking to my destination. I have upped the calories to 1350 for now, will change it if I feel hungry again. Thank you for the advice!

My guess is that you put in an aggressive weight loss goal, which is why your daily calorie target is so low and you're hungry all of the time. Back off the weight loss goal and up your calories.

Yes, it is set at 2lbs/week.
