You can create your own recipe by listing the ingredients you use.

In the food section, there is a Recipes tab. That is a place where you can build a dish based on the ingredients.

Ditto what everybody else said. It is kinda time consuming and I always have trouble with determing the serving size. But if this is a receipe that you use often then it will be worth making the receipe on here.
  • but how do i put down how much i eat? like if i eat 2oz put that in and it will do it? I really need to get some food scales..
sorry that i'm asking stupid question.

Yes, after you put in all the ingredients and have made the casserole, then you get to figure out how many servings are in there.

What I do is when I make it and am serving it up (like a casserole), I serve it out with a 1 cup measuring cup. Then I can count how many 1 cup servings there are. If 1 cup is too much for a serving, (like for gravy, sauce, etc.) use something smaller.

Then you have the information saved and if you ever change the recipe, you can always update it.
  • I'm really new to all this and thanks for all the help..

What I would do is when you next make the recipe you want to track, measure each portion out and see how many of whatever size portion you have, then when you go to log it you can have a more accurate reading, and it is easier to see if you ate a full portion or half a portion and what not. I LOVE the recipe tool, so much easier to keep accurate track of homemade items!

in the recipes section, you need to specify how many servings.

If you are weighing your food, then weigh the total recipe, and divide by how many are eating. What I usually do, is estimate how many servings and just try to be as equal as possible.

I like making double recipes for dinner, so we can eat for lunch the next day.

So I shoot for 4 servings and try to divide the recipe equally when serving.

    Hope that helps!

PS. yes, I highly recommend a kitchen scale. It's a lot more accurate and they are cheap enough. I saw a basic one at Home Goods. they also have one at amazon.com and I'm sure walmart and target carry them too. Usually $20 or under. It's a wise investment

I decide how I am going to serve it. For example if it is in a 9X9 pan I might cut it into 9 pieces, so it would serve 9. I think it is a best guess. Sometimes it is difficult. I have poured soup into my giant measuring bowl, so I can determine the serving size. 6 cups of soup therefore it is 6 servings, each one is 1 cup. I'm not sure if that helps or not.

To answer your question about food scales, yes, they are very useful. You can get a great one for about $20 at Wal-Mart. Totally worth the money. Make sure it has a "tare" function where you can set a bowl or plate on the scale, zero it out and then put the food in the bowl or on the plate so you are measuring the food and not the container.

Btw, when you are eating something that already has the nutrition information on the item, I have found that using the grams that are listed in the nutrition information is more accurate than counting the crackers or measuring the cereal, deli meat, ice cream, or whatever it is you are having.

If you eat 2 oz, you would still have to figure out how many ounces total are in the recipe. If it is 16 ounces, and you have a 2 ounce serving, you could say there are 8 servings of 2 ounces each in that recipe. Good luck!!
