With dieting and exercising it is recommended to drink plenty of water. Helps flush out your system and gets you metabolism going. I drink a minimum of a gallon of water a day which start with a tall 16oz cup of water upon waking up. By the way 1 gallon of water = 16 8oz cups.
So my question is how many cups of water are you drinking a day for your needs?

Your metabolism does need to "get going".

You should drink enough to be hydrated (check urine color). Too much water can actually be bad.

This is true. You should drink according to your needs. I work out heavy so a gallon a day works out for me.

I drink zero 'cups of water'.

I keep hydrated by consuming tasty food and drinks containing fluid.

I am yet to suffer death.

How fast can we lose water weight. I'm trying a new diet, where are you eating more low calorie intake foods. Apples, salads, berries, chicken, fish. I know in Apple is a better choice and a bag of potato chips. My only problem is I feel bloated afterwords and heavier on the scale.

Your urine should be a pale yellow.
Make sure it's not cloudy or brownish.
You should be able to "read a pretend newspaper" at the bottom of the toilet.
Any more water is a waste.

I drink enough to stay hydrated. Some days that's 80 ounces, other days it's 24. A gallon of water is a s&#t ton of water. I would have to set up my office in the bathroom if I drank that much water.

I drink when I'm thirsty, but I drink a lot of coffee and tea during the day, so that works. When I was younger, I drank nothing but coffee all day, every day, for years. I didn't die BUT I did get a kidney stone once (which I wouldn't wish inflicted on anyone but Hitler or a member of ISIS) and my doctor did tell me to try and drink more than just coffee, so that scared me enough that I do try and drink at least 1 bottle of water a day. If I am doing a lot of exercise, I drink more but I don't like plain water.

A gallon is a lot but it works for me. I take a caffeinated pre workout drink before my workout sessions along with more caffeine later in the day. I also take in a lot of protein (200g + a day). So it helps keep me hydrated and move things along in my system.

OMG I currently am being treated for kidney stones. That pain is unbelievable. My doctor said something about too much calcium - for petes sake, I'm a 59 year old woman, I NEED to take a calcium supplement!! So I drink drink drink - 8 glasses a day.
  • I don't drink that much. About half a gallon. I suppose it is because I drink smoothies a lot. I find that when I drink a gallon, I just feel very uncomfortable and bloated

you might want to do some research on calcium supplements. there's a fine balance between calcium and magnesium. Also, too much calcium (according to research) causes heart disease because of arterial calcification.

In the face of conflicting medical advice, its difficult for a person to make an informed decision. Even the research to which we have access conflicts. I guess we just have to deal with things as they come up. Thanks!

This is me, as well. I drink a lot of tea, but the amount of straight water that I drink varies. I drink more water when I exercise or in warm weather, which is probably typical of many people. My husband is a water fiend, though. He literally keeps a gallon jug of water in the fridge and drinks it throughout the day. Consequently, he pees more than a pregnant woman.

I have no idea...I concern myself with staying hydrated, not a particular number of ounces or gallons or whatever. I'd say in general I drink a lot of water because I live in the high desert at over a mile high in elevation and I am very active...I drink more in summer than winter...I just watch the color of my urine which is almost always clear to pale yellow.

I probably drink 4 cups of water, often with a bit of sugar free Ribena for flavour. Then maybe 6 cups of tea or coffee and food with watery stuff in them. I'm hydrated enough.

I drink more when I excercise, and it's the only time I'm not bored by plain water.

I had a kidney stone a few months before we conceived our son.

The birth was less painful. And I did it 100% natural without pain meds.

I was literally screaming for all the drugs with the kidney stone.

    Drink water ppl.

I aim for 1 gallon of water plus tea consumption. I'd love to get close to 1.5 gal water intake.

Why? What magical event will take place at 1.5 gallons of water per day? That is just a weird and very arbitrary goal to have.

"Ideally, I'd like to have to get up to pee every 15 minutes. That sweet release is just so enjoyable that I want to experience it as often as humanly possible."

I try to drink at least 8 cups. More or less, depending on how I am feeling for the day.

Gross, but usually I can tell by my poop (WHAT GIRLS POOP) if I've had enough water or not. Too liquid = too much water. Too dry = not enough water. It's a pretty simple way of telling, although kind of gross. Hahaha

I have found that after being taken off of my water pill (high blood pressure is getting under control with weight loss) that I need to drink 100ish ounces to keep from retaining too much fluid.

Hum, I don't know that I've ever measured my water. My pee tells me I'm doing okay though. I guess my water cup at work is 24oz and I fill it 4 ish times a day plus what I get from a coffee or tea or food.
    I like water :)

The arbitrary number of 8 glasses or 1 gallon or whatever is ...........arbitrary.

There is a lot of water in the healthy foods we eat so that counts too.
