Exercise Calories too high???

I am having issues with the Exercise Calories.

I am aloud 1,200 calories per day + exercise.

Today I am going to swim laps for an hour. I typed that in under 'light or moderate effort' and get 699 calories! That seems like wayyy to much!

There is no way I could eat all of those exercise calories, nor do I feel like I would lose weight if I did. I would feel like I was over-eating.

Does anyone else seem to be having these issues or am I really burning that many calories?

The calories burnt does depend on your weight, so it will vary quite a bit across the board. I find that some of them are a little high and some are a little low. I have a heart rate monitor, so I change mine to more accurately reflect my calories burnt. However, if you can't do that, I would just eat slightly less than what you've earned. Just a suggestion.

I found an independent website that said 690 calories for "Swimming laps, freestyle, light/moderate effort." This is only accurate if you're 190 pounds. If you're 155 it lists it at 563 calories, and if you're 130, only 472 calories. Hopefully this helps.

    What site is it?
  • Try these sites where you can put in your weight to better determine # of calories:

Purchasing my Polar F6 heart rate monitor was absolutely my best investment in this whole journey.
  • Yes, they may or may not be too high. Keep in mind that those exercises are other peoples, based on thier weight. You need to find out how many calories your body will burn for that particular exercise. A good website is caloriesperhour.com. You can find like EVERY activity under "activity calculator". Then, create your own exercise on MFP and enter your own weight. This should be more accurate

    I hope this helps!! :)

Swimming does use up a lot of calories. If you're swimming at a good, steady, moderate pace then you'll burn quite a bit. the 600 doesn't seem that high to me. Swimming will use every muscle in your body and force you to breath properly. It's great exercise. Now, if you are resting a lot in between laps, I'd drop that number quite a bit. The 600 calories in an hour assumes that you're swimming continuously for the entire time at a moderate pace.

Hi there why not look at this site it allows you to put your weight, height, age etc in to an excercise search to find what your calories burned are. www.caloriesperhour.com.

I'm going to have to check out that site too. According to my day I burned over 700 calories today.
