Hi.
So I read about paleo and it seemed to make sense. Giving up grains and dairy. For weight loss and overall health. But after just two days I had this overwhelming tired feeling. And I started feeling dizzy. I looked it up and I guess it's called paleo flu or low carb flu. And if you get past this you will have trained your body to fuel it self on fats and proteins or something like that. I was willing and had the determination to give up grains and dairy. But after reading some more I decided that grains, dairy and legumes are not bad. Healthy eating and balanced diet is the right way for me. And all in all. As great as the paleo diet may seem. I need my recommended daily intakes of carbs and dairy within limit that is. As for sugars and processed foods and alcohol I will be eliminating these from regular diet but not from self indulgence on occasion. Thoughts or experiences?

You don't give up carbs being paleo. What do you think fruit, veggies, and a huge paleo - sweet potatoes - are? Last I checked they are nothing but carbs.

It's pseudoscientific nonsense. Don't give it another moment's thought.

Tried it. Didn't like it. Now, following it? This all makes perfect sense to me. It also reminds me why I need to give up trying to be honest with people and just start my own cult . . . or diet. People will believe anything.

The number one factor (in my opinion) in determining long-term weight management and fitness success is finding a plan that you can adhere to in the long-term.

If this particular plan isn't one that you can adhere to, my recommendation would be to find a different plan.

Indeed, people need to eat the way that is best for them personally. Diets should all be bespoke.

No. I tried it and the poster was correct and I have revised my post. I did not mean to use the word carbs. And in my reply what I was trying to say was that poster was correct. That in following a paleo diet you don't give up carbs but grains

I tried it but paleo is not for me. And yes long term adherence and realistic lifestyle changes are individual. Paleo left me feeling tired and dizzy and it did not seem healthy. So although short lived in my experience there was no reason to continue based on how it made me feel.

I have tried paleo and it works for me most of the time-- that is because I do allow myself fruit some dairy during the week. There are days I am strictly paleo. I suggest you do paleo dieting every other day or add more protein and vegan meals to your diet including fruit and grains here and there. Today I was so hungry and for some reason I craved fried chicken. When I came home and eat I realized it was not a craving-- it was real hunger. I have decided to have my fruit or grains every other day and increase protein on days I do paleo. I also overdid on exercise so am trying not to exercise too much for the day when I cut out grains and carbs completely. I hope my advice will be helpful.

In other words, tell me what I want to hear. Got it. You can also lose weight if you wish it to be so. Good luck! You'll do awesome! Atta boy!

By the way I was losing one lb every other day with paleo but when I would add carbs -- the weight loss would stop. Instead, eating grains moderately and working out a little more those days is easier to maintain for me.

Try Truvia sugar in your diet -- you cannot get diabetes or high blood sugar with it. I use to that in my tea with a spoonful of milk.

Thank you sjabber. Yes your tips are helpful. I did not consider that I could do paleo diet days as opposed to paleo diet lifestyle.

I didn't like the way it made me feel after following it for a prolonged period and could not reasonably maintain eating paleo as a lifestyle change. But I do like sjabbers advice. I think it would be more sustainable for me.

I tried it too. It finally got me to eat more protein. And I stopped feeling ashamed about the little container of bacon fat that lives at the back of my fridge. I learned I could enjoy a meal without loads of starchy. Plus my seasonal allergies were alleviated (weird! I know...prolly the lower dairy). But in the end I went back to being an omnivore of moderation. The turn off? So. Much. Meat. And I really missed beans!

Dairy would have to be the one thing I could never give up... :(
