Calories and Macros

Bro-science: If you are in a calorie deficit you will lose weight, if you're in a calorie surplus you will gain weight.
But was curious, if you exceed a certain macro but still under calorie maintenance for the day, will you not put on any excess weight?
For instance drinking 5L of coke for 1 day, nothing else, will put you in a surplus of sugar for your daily needs but still in a calorie deficit. Will you not gain any weight (Fat)? What happens to that excess sugar?
Would like to know thoughts on this, and any other thoughts on calories vs macros. Thanks!

Calories in/calories out is not bro science. Outside of medical issues, it works.
http://www.cnn.com/2010/HEALTH/11/08/twinkie.diet.professor/
"For 10 weeks, Mark Haub, a professor of human nutrition at Kansas State University, ate one of these sugary cakelets every three hours, instead of meals. To add variety in his steady stream of Hostess and Little Debbie snacks, Haub munched on Doritos chips, sugary cereals and Oreos, too.
His premise: That in weight loss, pure calorie counting is what matters most -- not the nutritional value of the food.
The premise held up: On his "convenience store diet," he shed 27 pounds in two months.
For a class project, Haub limited himself to less than 1,800 calories a day. A man of Haub's pre-dieting size usually consumes about 2,600 calories daily. So he followed a basic principle of weight loss: He consumed significantly fewer calories than he burned.
His body mass index went from 28.8, considered overweight, to 24.9, which is normal. He now weighs 174 pounds."0 -

All calories store as Glucose for future energy!! Protein, carbs and fat all just calories. Alcohol is a different beast those calories will be burned off first which slows food calorie burning which slows fat burning if that is your goal.
I'll probably get hell for this but if you drink 6 shots of Vodka its 360 calories approx then workout in the am those first 360 calories burned will be the majority of the alcohol calories..
I use a weekly Calories count (20000 a week) and a Daily Macro count minimum Fat 75 and minimum Protein 150 grams the rest of my diet is anything I want to consume or crave..
I do Minimum Cardio 30 min 8-10 times a week (Mental health) and lift weights three on one off repeat Push Pull method.0
