Anyone out there in London Ontario?? I am headed to UWO for Teacher's College in September and searching for one bedroom apartments! Just wondering if there are any MFP peeps over there in London (don't worry, not some creep looking to live with you and steal your stuff hehe... was just apartment hunting and thought I'd check in :) )

I'm not in London anymore, but I did my undergrad and master's at UWO, so I lived in the city for 6 years. Not sure where you are coming from - if it's a small city/town, you may find you'll like London a fair bit. If it's from a bigger city, London may leave a lot to be desired, haha. It's hard to get around by foot, since it's such a spread-out city... very run by the car! There are some great spots though. I love the Covent Garden Market - you can get some great fresh produce, cheese, meats, coffee, etc.

Not sure where you are looking to live, but the Oxford/Wonderland area has a cluster of apartments by Oxford/Proudfoot, which are close enough to convenient bus routes to UWO (if you have a car, obviously this isn't that relevant), but it's also pretty easy to get downtown from there, and the apartments are reasonably priced. The closer you get to campus, the less bang you get for your buck. I lived at 700 Horizon, which was a lovely building, and the manager was AWESOME.... but it was super infested with pharaoh ants, so I can't fully recommend it, haha. :)

Anyways, hope you enjoy teacher's college - what sort of teacher are you going to be?

PS - if you want any other advice about the city or university, let me know! Though perhaps my unsolicited advice here was enough for you. Heheh.

HEY! Awesome advice, thanks!! I actually did my first year at Western and majorly clashed with my roommate and people on my floor, people in my classes... I just didn't fit in, so I transferred to my home University. But, alas, I am superficial and dream of my name on a degree from UWO... plus it IS an excellent school! I want to teach Kindergarten, thank you for asking :)

Although I will have a car there, I will only have it during my Practicum so I will have to rely on the bus routes. I will have to look up the Oxford/Proudfoot area. I am extremely poor and hoping to get something for $600/inclusive... I have found a few places, some basement apartments etc. but won't know how conveniently they are located until I go on Saturday to check them out... will also have to research the London Transit to see bus routes... how overwhelming!! I just may message you with more questions!

Hopefully you end up with a good place! :) Moving is totally overwhelming - I hate it!!

Definitely feel free to message me, especially if you have bus route questions... I haven't been on ALL of them, but I've been on my fair share! I used to live on the 32 Windermere route for 3 years... which was AWFUL. It stopped at 6pm on Fridays and Saturdays (though it took me months to realize that it stopped early on Fridays... there were days when I stood outside in the bitter cold waiting and waiting!), and doesn't run at all on Sundays. So I definitely understand the importance of living on a non-crappy bus route. :)
  • If you need help with buses, let me know. They suck here but being reliant on the LTC I've come to know them fairly well. Although I'm not as familiar with the UWO area.
