Oatmeal Pancakes - Advice?

Hi, I'm a newbie at cooking and going to try pancakes tommorow! Here's what I'm going to use:
1/4 Cup Irish Oatmeal (McCann's Quick and Easy Steel Cut)
1/2 Cup Simply Whites
28g (1 oz) Chocolate Protein Powder
1/2 Teaspoon Baking Powder
One question, should I cook the Irish steel cut oats fully then add it to everything (egg whites, powder), and then make the pancakes on the skillet? On the packaging for preparing oatmeal it says: Combine 3/4 cup of water with 1/4 cup of Quick & Easy Steel Cut Oats in deep microwave-safe bowl. Microwave on HIGH For 3 minutes, stir and then cook for an additional 2-3 minutes.
Thanks!

My experience with steel cut oats is that they usually need to cook for 20 min. or so. Like rice. I have never tried the quick and easy kind. Does the recipe call for any milk or anything? Hmm...I just don't know with the ingredients you have listed, they might be chunky-which is good if your just want a "cake", but if you want the texture like real pancakes, you probably need more ingredients.0

I would soak the oats or cook them for half the time, draining whatever remaining water goes unabsorbed.0

The recipe doesn't call for milk. Do you guys think I should just stick to the Quaker Instant Oatmeal?0

I think you will be fine with the steel cut-but the ? still is-do you want more of a patty pancake or a pancake pancake. Also, one way to make oatmeal flour is to just put old fashioned oats in the blender and blend to a powder. You can then have oat flour cheaper than buying it, and just substitute the amount of protein powder in equal amounts for the flour. I have a pancake recipe if you like. I also don't know if you really don't want to use milk.0

This is from Body for Life... and they call them protein pancakes.
Great Value - Fat Free Cottage Cheese Small Curd, 1/2 cup (112g)
Vanilla extract - Imitation, no alcohol, 1 tsp
Generic - Ground Cinnomon, 1 tsp
Eggbeaters - Original Egg Beaters, 1/2 Cup
Great Value (Walmart) - 100% Whole Grain Old Fashioned Oatmeal - All Natural, 1/8 cup dry
throw everything in the blender, pour and cook like pancakes. Under 300 calories for the whole batch. They are delicious!0 -
mussmom - Thanks for the advice, I really appreciate it. I think I'll use my magic bullet. I think I can sacrifice the milk calories for texture haha.
Diannerv - Thanks!0 -
Either way-they will be good The Body For Life recipe sounds good! Good luck!!0

If the recipe doesn't say to cook the oatmeal, you shouldn't. I'd blend it in the blender or use Dianne's recipe. I've blended steel cut oatmeal in the blender real fine and used it instead of flour for cookies and it works fine - good alternative.0
