becoming a couch potato again! :(

Hello fellow MFPers. I have never started a post but I need some help. I'm feeling myself starting to lose motivation. I'm at my lowest adult weight. That should feel so exciting! Instead I'm psyching myself out and telling myself I should just give up bc I have never gotten below this weight and the only time I've ever been at this weight was when I was working out 4-5 days/week at Curves, running 5-6 days a week (3-12 miles a day) and on a medically supervised liquid diet. I keep reminding myself that this time around I did it myself and that I can get to my goal! However, that self-doubt devil keeps whispering in my ear. It's hard to not listen and just give up bc it would be so much easier.
I'm a teacher and last Wednesday was my last day of school. I tend to fall apart in the summer. I thrive on structure and routine. I lose that once school is done. I have tried in the past to schedule my day like school but it never works. Also, I either forget to eat until my hubby gets home or I pig out all day long. I'm going to try really hard to not do that this summer. I'm just so tired and want to give up. I'm sure by tomorrow or Monday I will feel like myself again. Tonight I just feel like giving up. I've never been successful losing weight on my own until now. I remind myself daily that it takes time and hard work. I read all the success stories. I'm just in a slump. Anyone else ever felt like this? How did you snap yourself out of it?

Join a gym... sign up for classes so you will have structure again. If you can't get yourself to workout....watch what you eat & keep moving all day, no sitting until evening. You will get back into it. We all have times that we lose motivation!
Good luck ; )0 -
When I feel myself start to loose motivation I make it a point to either do a work out, or I look at this website and old pictures of myself before the weight loss. A way to continue with the structure through out the summer would be to plan out your meals for the week, log them in to your diary and even the exercise you plan to do. this way you can see what you have to work with through out the day which may help to stop a snack attack and give you a little bit of the structure that you crave. You could even try to keep your meal times to those that had during the school year to continue with the structure. Hope this helps!0

Join a gym, volunteer, get a part-time job for the summer. Just add some structure back into your life!
I totally understand the I'm at my lowest adult weight issue. It's not only mentally difficult but physically harder to get the weight off. It's easier to give up with slow results. But don't! Just think you can easily lose another 20 lbs by the time you start school again...and just think of all those new clothes!
You can do this!0 -
DON"T give up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You have come to far to turn back now. Be proud of yourself. If you can't be proud of yourself, then others can not be proud of you either. Maybe you could see if your local hospital could use a volunteer. And if not, then maybe find a nursing home or some where that could use a volunteer, or just find someone in one of these places that could use a visit from you. Keep your days occupied with helping others and that way you will also be helping your self.0

Another way to keep motivated is to volunteer or work during the summer. Since you're a teacher, you probably enjoy kids and might enjoy volunteering one or two days a week at a library or similar setting.
On the other hand...my MIL is an instructional aide...and I can't even imagine the slap I'd get for recommending anything BUT couch-potatoism during the summer months to HER. Summer is the only time of year for her...and I can understand if you're the same way. If you're enjoying the thought of three kid-less months...try getting into classes or volunteering away from kids. Anything that sets you to be at a certain place at a certain time will help.
I own my own business, and found I have to set some sort of appointment, even a quick phone call, each and every day. If there's a day I don't HAVE to work, I end up slacking off and snacking all day long...a double whammie! But as long as there's at least ONE milestone in my day, I can focus the whole day through. The first step is always the hardest for me!0 -
Thanks everyone! I would find a 2nd job (I found a PT job last summer bc we needed money) but the job market sucks (my sister has been looking since Feb!). Also I have two little boys and we spend the summer together. This year they are going to daycare 3x/week so I can get some major projects done. This will keep me active. I think I will look into the volunteering thing, though. Sounds like fun! I would LOVE to join a gym but unfortunately we have no extra income. I miss my Curves ladies! I'm just in a slump. My sister is going to stay with us this summer and I'm thinking that having her here will help a lot! I just need to kick myself in the butt and get moving. Thanks for the encouragement! It has helped so much. This site rocks! :flowerforyou:0

Can I just add that verbalizing this has helped so much also. Just getting it out has given my brain a chance to process it and I feel much better now. I'm going to get on my bike and ride for an hour now! That always makes me feel better! Thanks again everyone! :bigsmile:0

Sarah! Gurl! You can do this. You're in the 180s! I can't imagine! Keep up the good work because you're motivating me! We should get together for walks or bike rides this summer! Do you and Joel have bikes that you can pull the boys in?0
