TV and Eating

What is it about a television that makes me compulsively eat? I don't watch much TV but for some reason when I do I get ridiculously hungry. After a while it dawns on me that I am eating and I am way over stuffed! Maybe I should stick to chewing sugar free gum when I am at home...
Have a great day guys:flowerforyou:

I have the same problem mate. I've found that eating healthy, fiddly things like satsumas or pod peas keeps me occupied and hunger at bay when I'm watching TV. I guess its the popcorn principle but not as fun..

    Hope it helps!

I get the same way. I think it's just boredom. I feel like I need to be doing something. So I fold clothes, pick up and clean during commercials or do a word search. I have a friend who took up crocheting just to keep from stuffing her face, whatever works I guess, lol.

Also, ever noticed how many food commercials there are? My husband and I were watching football the other night in real time (we usually get to fast forward through the commercials) and we found ourselves saying, "Man I could really go for a pizza". We had just eaten. My husband said, if there is one more commercial for pizza, we're getting one. Guess what? There was. But we were too lazy to go get it or even order it, so we were saved by our own laziness.

I often exercise during TV. It's really wasted time anyway- I mean you're just sitting there, right! TV time is a great time to do pushups, situps, squats, lunges, etc.
There are a couple of shows that I really like, and I don't allow myself to watch unless I'm exercising during! One thing that helps me is realizing all those skinny ladies on the shows must work out to look so great.

Here's a radical approach... Blow up your tv. (Remember that old JOhn Prine song? No? Well, maybe I'm older than you... )

Anyway, I got rid of my tv about five years ago - don't miss it, don't sit home and veg and don't need to watch calories while watching the game or Idol or anything else.

Now, I know that's radical, and most won't even consider it, I'm just pointing out there are multiple paths to the same end: a healthy lifestyle. So watch tv if that's your thing - just have a bowl of fruit handy, and a sign that says "Kitchen Closed!" that you put on the fridge when you turn on the tv!!!

I definately find it to be one of my downfalls. That's why I joined the challenge to not eat past 7:30. I'm also trying to go to bed earlier, so to help stop cravings while I'm watching t.v..

I munch on baby carrots alot. At least that way I am getting my veggies in from my mindless eating... plus you never really hear anyone say, "gosh, if only I had eaten less carrots I wouldn't be such a fattie!"

We don't get any channels. We just have the tv to watch occational movies. So I can say that I do not have a problem with eating and watching tv. Maybe you should give it a try.

Well, there's constant food commercials. That doesn't help. Then, we've been programmed to eat in front of the TV. Think of a movie or a tv show that doesn't show people sitting in front of the tv with food. Who's ever heard of Game Day that didn't include food/snacks. Honestly, we invented TV dinners so that we could eat in front of the TV. Think of it as a conditioned response. I can just about guarantee that you are not hungry, you just think you are.
