Crutches and weightloss!!

Anyone else trying to lose weight on crutches? Recovering after a badly broken ankle (fixed with metalwork so must be VERY low impact) struggling to think of exercises - also been told not to swim by doc. Please help!
I've always been quite muscular (under the "extra layer" at the moment!) so doing weights isn't the answer i'm looking for, plus lifting yourself around on crutches is pretty good for toning your arms and lower back! Need some cardio to go with it all to get a bit of a sweat on and shed a bit more of the wobble!

Try the rowing machine or the mini rebound trampoline - sit on your bottom and just bounce up and down like that. Get well soon!0

Also punching exercises are great for some cardio0

maybe if you do like 10,000 of them
doing ab exercise doesn't seem to me like it would get your heart rate up all that much. Talk with your physical therapist about different exercises you could do, your doctor is great for internal medicine, but they usually aren't trained well in the athletic aspects of body mechanics like your PT would be.
but remember that your diet is the most important overall aspect, if you can't workout, you can't workout, instead you should focus most of your energy on making and maintaining an excellent diet0 -
I know what this is like. I also had a bad break with several surgeries and was on crutches for a long time. I would not have been able to do the rower as the movements back and forth tug on your foot -- and I was trying to keep my foot attached to the rest of my leg! The only thing I cd do was that arm bicycle thingie.
Currently, I"m doing Turbo Jam (exercise DVD), and there is a lot of fast-paced punching and speed bag work. I wish I had known about this while I was healing. You could do this kind of stuff while sitting on the couch.

Oh, one more thing. Keep an eye on having your body aligned, no matter what you do -- even if it's going around on crutches. I really got out of whack and had to have a lot of bodywork (shiatsu massage, rolfing, etc) to get myself all lined up again. So be careful you don't start favoring one side more than the other.0
