That's wonderful, great work! I can't swim at all, but I highly recommend an aquafit class, which is done in the shallow end of the pool. I go twice a week and it's a total body workout, legs, core, arms, etc. It's a lot of fun, and because it's in the water it's low impact on joints. I find I can exercise a lot longer without getting tired!

I've been swimming+ acquagym for 20 yrs now. I do 40 min laps and 30 min acquagym. I watch the better swimmers (alot of them are younger than I am) and pick up tips for my workouts. You can always swim faster or breath differently-I used to breath every 3rd stroke, now I do it on every 4th when I do freestyle. If you want, you can always take some lessons to get ideas.

Thanks for the tips, CJoy and Snowflake! I will sign up for a water aerobics class tomorrow, and try to do it in addition to the lap swim.

Interval training is really good with swimming! As a beginner I would say sprint a lap: you have 60seconds. However much time you have left is your break till your next lap. Do this 10-15 times. Then do a 100-200 yard cool down (about 4-8 laps)
Hope this helps! I swam in school and my mom went to the Olympic trials so I have a few workouts in mind! Haha

I've also just started swimming laps regularly!! To warm up, I do 200 yards kickboard (rotating stomach and back depending on my mood), 200 yards pulls (front crawl). That takes about 20-30 minutes. Then I time another 20-30 minutes doing laps, mostly front crawl, but I'll do one or two laps of breast stroke if I start feeling tired or getting sloppy. To cool down I do 100 yards kickboard and 100 yards breast stroke. I'm working on my endurance right now and average about 1 minute per 50 yard lap on front crawl. Some day I'll be faster!! Hope that helps.
