I'm confused. Are you not eating meat on purpose to go vegetarian or just stopped eating it because you don't like it?0
-
Why would you think you won't get what you need if you don't eat bacon, sausage and burgers?0
-
You can meet your nutritional needs on chicken, fish, and steak. There is nothing specific in bacon, sausage, and burgers that your body requires. Are you worried that you aren't eating enough chicken, fish, and steak to meet nutritional needs for protein? Or are there other nutrients you're worried about?0

Just going off meat, just doesn't do anything for me any more. basically i have to be on a low vitamin k diet so my diet is already limited and now cutting out other things im just concerned thats all xx0

I can't see your diary, so I'm not sure what else you are eating. When people eliminate meat from their diet, this often creates the potential for a protein deficit (depending on what else they are eating). People on a plant-based diet use things like beans, grains, tofu, tempeh, seitan, vegetables, and protein powder to meet their protein needs. Lacto-ovo vegetarians will also eat eggs and dairy for protein.
I don't know anything about low vitamin K, so I'm not sure if these will work for you or not.0 -

If you are low K because of warfarin I can tell you you can still eat vitamin K foods. You just need to be consistent. I have at least 2 high K foods every day & my INR is very stable. Here's some info on warfarin if its helpful:

Thank you for your help hun, just spoke to a pharmacist and she said as long as i don't go full vegetarian i should be ok and when i go to see my consultant he will do blood checks just to make sure0

rhumax thanks for your help, i know i can eat vitamin k foods but because of the reasons i am on it my doctor has said that where possible avoid it so thats what im doing0

This happened to me in my thirties- for no particular reason it just didn't appeal to me. At the same time I had a little resolution to try two new balanced veggie recipes a week and gradually found the veggie meals more satisfying. I still enjoy a good steak once in a while and roast chicken, but not much else. Just make sure youre getting enough nutrients and dont worry about it!0

Plus processed meat isnt a bad thing to go off, your body doesnt need that crap!0

I'm 36, I stopped eating red meat at 13, poultry at 29. Was never into pork.
I occasionally will eat fish. My blood work has been fine every year, and I lift 5 days a week and have no issues. You have tons of protein options that don't have to include meat.0 -

So...you're not going off of all of the meat...I'm pretty sure chicken, fish and steak are still meat products last time I checked lol

OP: Are you taking warfarin (coumadin) ?
If so, you and your pharmacist are mightily confused regarding a reasonable diet. Read the materials given to you by the clinic.0 -
I was vegetarian for 10 years and still don't eat certain meats. It's no big deal if you don't eat meat, I still don't have it particularly often. Plus chicken, fish and steak are the only meats you'd want to be eating really anyway. The others are overly processed and not an everyday sort of food so much. Just eat things like lentils, legumes, eggs, spinach, broccoli etc0

Peanut butter. Milk. Old fashioned rolled oats. Flaxseed. Adzuki beans. Brown rice. Olive oil. Kale. Spinach. Potatoes. Cabbage. Tomatoes. Other fruits. Whole wheat.
You can get enough protein to build muscle and all of your micros/ macros with this diet.0 -
Have you tried lentils? I don't eat meat. I have a slow cooker and lots of lentils at home, different kinds. . Very easy.
Go to an Indian store close by-Look at their lentil section. There you will see the following-
Moong Dal
Yellow dal
Green Dal.
These are delicious and high protein. Just take 1/2 cup of any of these lentils, add double water or little more and turn it on high for around 6 hours in your slow cooker. Add some salt and little turmeric.
Take a pan, add oil. Then add any spices you like e.g. chilly pepper, turmeric, cumin. Saute for a few seconds, add the lentil from above, stir well, add onions, garlic, any veges you like. Delicious soup!

quinoa, any kinds of beans, nuts (in moderation) any kinds of seeds, spinach, baby kale, oatmeal, there is protein in all vegetables0

The reason i am concerned ladies is because I am on warfrain and have to have a Low/No vitamin K diet which means no kale, spinach etc. My diet is so restricted already, I was concerned that taking out some meats would effect my blood work. Have spoken to the cardiac specialists now and got sorted, so thank you for all your comments xx0

I'm also on warfarin and I'm not sure why they have told you not to have Vit. K in your diet. I spoke with two doctors about this when I was first put on it and it's all about being consistent in your diet with vit. K foods. It's fine, and in fact, very good for you to eat vit. K rich foods. I'm a huge spinach and brussels sprouts eater! As another poster said, you just need to be somewhat consistent in how much vit. K rich foods you eat so that your INR level stays where it needs to be and your dose of warfarin can consistently keep it there. The more vit. K you eat, then you need a larger dose of warfarin is all. I take 6 mg/day.
I'm a vegetarian. For protein I eat a lot of tofu, beans, lentils, quinoa, nuts (in moderation), and tons of vege's. There's a lot of protein in certain vegetables. If you log your food, you can track your macros to see if you're meeting your goals.0 -
You can totally not eat red ground meat and sausages!
Chicken and fish are really good sources of protein.
I got dick of eating chicken so I eat fish and eggs often.
I eat nuts too! Good for you!0 -
A little meat (grass fed) is healthy. Be sure you take good form of b12.
