so i posted about 3/4 months ago about my calf pain when running.
I have since been for a sports massage and had my trainers checked etc and all are in order :-)
now I have rejoined the gym and i can run on the treadmill for 20 mins alternating 3 mins of sprints with 2 mins of walking which i feel is a massive break through for me however i still get the pain when i try to run outside.
i go through the same procedure - 5 mins warm up and stretching of my calfs.
any ideas why this pain only happens when i run outside now?
i am seriously getting drove crazy with it

could be shin splints, you can get them in the calfs, they are called anterior shin slints. Try googling shin splints, there is lots of information regarding symptoms and how to avoid them.
Hope they feel better soon

Potassium deficiency? Could be something like that too.0

might be shoes? I know that there is a massive difference between walking inside and outside regarding shoes and how your feet react to the surface0

Hi,
Running on a treadmil is flat as a pancake whereas outside is uneven and even the smallest "bump" under foot changes the way the impact travels up your leg.0 -
I'm an outside runner, and I had to get really good running shoes,it hasent completely relieved the cramps i get in my calf but it has helped alot.there's so much impact on your legs when running outside.I also stretch during my run, seems to help:bigsmile:0

I would suggest going to get your running 'gait' checked out - any decent sports shop should have this service - it could be that you need better footwear to 'absorb' the uneven surface.

If it's shin splints, they could still be present. Did you see a doctor?0

It may just be your body adjusting to the conditions. Even what looks like a flat outdoor surface can be slightly uneven and cause leg pain at first. Your legs will eventually adjust and adapt. My legs hurt like hell the first two months I started running outside, especially my shins, calves, and glutes. It was just from not being conditioned for the slope of the roads and sidewalks....after building up, I was fine.0
