Yes. My body counts the calories in vegetables, so I do too.

They have calories so I count them. I usually don't weight them after the first few times, but I do log my onions, peppers, lettece, broccoli and the rest.

Absolutely....they make up at least 75% of my intake every day, I'd be foolish not to!

Yes, but I don't think they make or break you, especially the ones with negligable calories ... but maybe I'd lose more weight if I thought differently!

Weight Watchers doesn't "count them".....but their starting calories are lower. So they are not really free.

I do. My bowl of salad is 100 calories before the dressing etc. Doesn't seem like much, but it would add up. 100 calories over maintenance every day could amount to a 1lb gain every 5 weeks.

I've had over 300 calories of brussels sprouts, mushrooms, cabbage, carrots, and broccoli in the last 24 hours. Since I'm shooting for a 250 calorie deficit per day this week, that could certainly make a difference.

I'm not sure if those are the vegetables you consider to have negligable calories or not though.

I count all my veggies, they just don't amount up to much for me. It's probably a good idea to do so. They are nutrient rich too.

Sure. I also count the fiber in mfp. Which help you feel full, and also helps eliminate cholesterol in you body.

Plus packed with lots of nutrients, that help your body work 'better', ie metabolism etc.

I do count my vegetables but I'm not as precise with them as I am with other foods. Reason: If my colleague offers me a small carrot stick, the calorie content is minimal, so I say "thank you" and eat it. If she offered me a piece of cheese of a similar size, I'd definitely log it.

Is this actually a debate topic? Does someone want to argue that we should not?

When I am logging, yes, I log vegetables, and that's because:

    (1) I eat a lot of vegetables, they have calories, and I want an accurate calorie count. (I don't worry about being super precise, but I usually weigh when cooking and there's no reason not to dump the vegetables on the scale after chopping them, so I do.)

    (2) I don't consider my log as intended simply to track the "bad" (i.e., high cal) foods I eat, nor do I think of calories as bad or any foods as such. I see it as a way to (a) collect information about what I ate for further review (and if I do more poorly in making choices re "junk" foods on a day I ate fewer veg, I'd need to log veg to see that), and (b) to see how my diet is overall and if I am getting in the nutrients I need (and without logging veg, how could I look at that?).

    (3) I dislike the WW approach of not giving points to fruits and veg and otherwise playing with the points system to trick you into eating more such foods, as if you would not otherwise make sensible choices. I'm an adult, I'm educated, and I can make sensible choices based on accurate information. I'd never limit the amount of vegetables I eat to save calories for cookies, and don't need to pretend they don't have calories to encourage myself to eat them. I eat them because I like them and know they are good for me.

Yes. If it has calories, it counts. I don't log things that don't have calories, even for the macros, though. If you're someone that pays close attention to the macros, then you need to log those too, but all I'm concerned about is calories.

Yes, I log all vegetables. The only thing I don't log is tea, since I drink it unsweetened.

Thanks everyone. I just quit weight watchers and started mfp. I thought it didn't make sense not to count them so I have been counting my veg but was just curious if other people did.

Absolutely I enjoy it as I think I reach about 7 daily. It is a good goal,I think our food pyramid sucks and should be higher for fruit veg of course fresh and unpolluted which is rare to find these days

If you're in the US, there isn't a food pyramid anymore - the current symbol is the MyPlate which is a plate that is about half fruits and vegetables.

Fresh vegetables and unpolluted vegetables are rare to find? Don't you have a grocery store?

I can't imagine what it must be like to live in a place where the fruits and vegetables sold in every grocery store are moldy and polluted.

I don't literally *count* to four portions of vegetables and three portions of fruit every day, but I have some vegetables for every meal and fruit for every meal except dinner.

Yes of course I do. They have calories so therefore I count them. I count everything I eat that has calories.

I think dancingdarl means - unpolluted * organic no sprays or pesticides , most fruit and veg in grocery stores unless stated organic has sprays etc .. Alot of people these days want their fruit and veg free of all those poisons.

Yes, why wouldn't I? They have calories.

Of course. Its not like its that hard. I also mostly eat frozen veggies cooked on top of the stoveand and my pot fits on top of my scale. So it takes 5 seconds to log it. Why wouldn't I?

I count calories in fruits and veggies. If I could, I would make those calories bold and flashing neon, because I need to eat more vegetables and fruits.

Yes, I count everything. *But* I am less inclined to be super strict on weighing all my veggies if I don't have time.
