Alcohol

I'm 215 and 6 feet tall. I work out five days a week. Strength training and cardio. Im eating the suggested 1800 calories a day as suggested by MFP. But I still have a sizable surplus each day. Being 24, most social endeavors involve alcohol. Obviously, I could just bypass and say no to having a drink, but with a surplus is it still very counterproductive to have a couple of drinks one day of the week?

    I just keep my alcohol within my calorie range. But, then I find I may eat more and make poorer diet choices.

    I have an average of a serving a day. Everything in moderation. Simply adjust your workouts according to your intake.

    Beer = runnin' fuel!

    I could respond with something about everything in moderation and treating yourself now and then, and finding a way to healthily work alcohol into your calories. But, that's easier said than done of course, and good beer has a lot of calories any way you slice it, and sometimes I don't want to limit my eating so I can fit in 3 IPAs. But, it's just like anything else with calories.. you have to pick your battles and figure out what is worth it to you.

    Overall I think drinking with less frequency is better in my experience, and just picking a few good nights here and there to really get after it, rather than having a couple of drinks several times a week.

    I find a way to fit it in my calories. When I know I'm going to be doing something social, that involves drinking, I have a bigger deficit (usually 100- 200) the days leading up to the event. Then I use those calories for the event.

    Alcohol does affect the muscle building process. the more alcohol the worse the effect. If you are going to have a couple once a week best not to do it after a workout. A couple isn't going to hurt you on your off day if you are really serious about lifting and building muscle

    i drink all the time.

    as long as it fits in your calories, it wont hinder weight loss (im down 80 pounds)

    i cant tell you how/if it affects building muscle (esp for men) but if youre eating in a deficit, you wont be building muscle, anyways...

    When it comes to alcohol, I don't bounce back as fast as I used to. Kills motivation to push hard in my world. I love to lift so it had to go. That and to keep my health...

    Many here don't have an issue with fitting it in ect. So see what works for you.
