Does anyone row and lift? Hoping the rowing works out my legs and glutes.

Lifting should do that... are you following an actual plan or routine or just kind of doing what you know?

I do have an entire lifting routine. Arm day, back and chest day, leg day. Love it and know I'll do it for life. But I rowed pretty regularly a year ago and just did it this week. The calorie burn is amazing and I was hoping it helps with legs, abs and butt, lol

    Per Bodybuilding.com http://www.bodybuilding.com/exercises/detail/view/name/rowing-stationary

Rowing works Quads, Biceps, calves, glutes, hamstrings, low back, and mid back. But it's also listed as cardio, so if you are looking to gain muscle in those areas, it probably won't help too much with that. It will, on the other hand, burn some calories.

    Thanks so much. :)
I'm hoping that it will tone and improve those areas. But the muscle gain I know has to come from lifting. Just want to incorporate cardio again. I've done elliptical and that's good too

"toning" as it is commonly used is simply another way of saying, lose the excess fat that is currently hiding your muscles.

I'm not sure if that's how you are using it, but either way, it's all about fat loss to show the muscles that you have/are building through lifting.

That being said, it's really all about dialing in your dietary intake, tracking, and logging accurately.

    Good luck.

Hi, I row in a university crew and follow our rather intense training program. Not really much to add after these excellent replies, other than that I still find it to be one of the most complete cardio exercises out there. So just wanted to encourage you getting back on it, as it will tone you better than most other forms you may find

Yay! I'm so glad to hear that! I was doing it so regularly a year ago that I was rowing for 60 minutes/10,000meters and burning close to 600 calories. I jumped on the row machine this week and made it through the hour/9,205meters and had a calorie burn of 420
I love lifting but I want to get cardio in too.
    Thanks for the encouragement :)
