Hey guys,

So I am going food shopping today and was wondering what some of your favorite healthy snacks/ dinners are. I have a kitchen in my apartment so I am able to cook but warning I am not the best cook lol. So what are some ideas?

Can never go wrong with whole wheat pasta and low sodium spaghetti sauce... cheap, easy, tasty. Frozen vegtables are alwasy a good one too.. buy generic, cheap and can usually get a bigger bag. Tuna in water is also good for you and cheap. add a little mayo to it and stick itin some whole wheat bread ad ya got a sandwhich. Frozen chicken breasts or chicken strips are a must... not the breaded kind... the real deal... you can diced them up or cook them whole... they work great for everything... oh and brown rice... another cheap and easy meal! good luck!

Im a student too, I eat the same thing pretty much everyday (you may not want to do that)

Breakfast: scrambled eggs, sauteed tomatoes and spinach, cheese, toast, banana
Lunch: tinned/packaged soups and half a tuna fish sandwich
Dinner: Sauteed spinach and pan-fried or baked salmon ( I went to foodnetwork.com to get more salmon recipes)

I also eat lots of fruit throughout the day.

I love greek yogurt! Mmm with a bit of honey and cinnamon.
Having lots of herbal teas on hand are great to curb snacking.
I always have spinach on hand and fish. Salmon/Rice and steamed spinach makes a great simple supper.
I agree whole wheat pasta and sauce is a good dinner staple too.
Wraps are good to throw things on for lunch.
My two breakfast staples are eggs (omelletes) and oatmeal with peanut butter (soo filling!)

Look for fruits and vegetables that are in season! they are so much cheaper. Also, I know being in college puts you on a tight budget (I'm currently a junior). Try emailing your favorite brands and asking for coupons in the mail. I did that and now I'm eating like a champ. haha. Usually the healthier things are more expensive...but now they're affordable. I <3 it!

Fruits and veggies in season are definitely the way to go. Plan menus around what's on sale on your local grocery store. Stir fry is a lifesaver. Buy frozen stir fry veggies (cheaper than buying lots of different veggies) and add in a little of what is fresh in season (cabbage, yellow squash, asparagus, green beans, etc.) Use more veggies than meat. I can use one 6 oz frozen chicken breast, one 16 oz bag of veggies and a pot of rice and it feeds three adults. Skip the rice (I used Miracle Noodles for last week's chicken stir fry) and it's only about 150-200 calories.
  • Check out what I eat. I have a few daily food vlogs and Friday favorites are good places to start:

English muffins! I buy the Thomas original ones. you can make mini pizzas on them, make an egg, cheese, ham breakfast sandwich on it, put peanut butter with banana on it, tuna sandwhich, and a lot more! I also buy tomato sauce, shredded cheese, yogurt, baby carrots!!!, peanut butter, water!!!, almonds!!!, cheerios, granola bars (nature valley), and freeze dry fruits.
  • Green Giant frozen veggies -- I like the broccoli and carrots with garlic and herbs. So easy to make and so delicious :)
