Have you found this to be reliable with some sort of consistency or have you found yourself close to the predicted weight around the 5 week mark? Or do you not pay this any attention?

Those numbers are all over the place. I can have identical food days that only vary in 8oz of water consumption and it give a 3lbs difference.

I have done an analysis of this over the past year. Yes. I was curious. I find that it consistently places me 16 lbs above what I actually weigh at any point. So, I can look at it and then add that amount in and have it be fairly accurate.0

Only may possibly be accurate if every day is exactly the same. They are not. Personal experience is that it never matches up, largely due to the variations that are part of life.0

It is not at all reliable for me it's been telling me the same weight for months. I lose very slowly.0

It's motivating but, as stated above, the numbers can be all over the place depending on daily calorie intake, exercise expenditure, and your personal rate of weight loss.0

I find it too aggressive. I imagine this is because, though I weigh everything to the best of my ability and try to be conservative in my exercise logging, I'm off on calories. It is just an algorithm at the end of the day.0

I like to see good numbers with it, and it motivates me, but it's not like I ever remember the exact number it gives me, and check it. I kind of just take it as a "job well done" at the end of my day.0

Aside from it making me feel good when I am under my calorie goal, I don't pay attention to it. It doesn't take into account that some weeks I eat more and exercise less or eat less and exercise more, etc. There's a lot of variables it doesn't (and cant') take into account. So no, I wouldn't say it's reliable. That's why it says "IF everyday were like today." No two days are really alike. Take it with a grain (or two) of salt.0

I tried to make note of it then 5 weeks i tried to be fairly constant, not eating more than 200 calories more or less than my starting day. In the end i only lost 2lbs by the 5th week instead of the 8 it predicted0

I find it amusing to occasionally go back 5 weeks and see what the software was telling me. I'm easily amused.0

Nope. Initially my weight loss was faster than predicted but as I got close to goal weight it's really overestimated. I "should" still be losing but I haven't.0

I am going to experiment with this. I am going to write the number down every day. See what the difference is. Then at the end of 5 weeks, see how far off it was.0

I find it motivates me to do better but I don't think it is accurate. It's all based on how much over/under you are on calorie goal.0

MFP just an estimate or it wants you to be accurate by logging your foods correctly.Sometimes I pay attention to it to see what my weight would be in 5 weeks but it's there to remind you if the same calories are the same every day for 5 weeks you should meet that number. For me it's a motivation number to keep me accountable!!!
Even if i do an average the predicted weight for the week i won't meet that even close. And this is with some level of consistency since I dont really eat any extra or any different daily.0 -

What i did was added the predicted weight for 7 straight days of logging and found the average. I tried to be consistent for the next 5 weeks. But i never came close to that original average even I made sure to eat similar to that first week , i even added exercise which was not apart of that first week. Where i over ate one day I made sure to eat less another so I'd be around the same calories consumed each week. It's definitely over estimating . Someone also pointed out if you log the exact same meals days in a row but vary the amount of water consumed you'll get different estimates as a result of the change in water0 -
I took an 8 hour Aikido seminar one saturday and there was a vegan buffet after. During the seminar, all that was available was fruit and water, because no one wanted to have a rock in their belly while being tossed about. I logged everything and it told me I would have lost 60lbs in five weeks if every day had been like that day.
It's amusing, but I wouldn't tell a dress maker to make a dress in that size based off it. I would find more comfort in noticing that the number it says I will be is slowly going down. Last month it kept saying I would be in the low 160's, and now it's saying I will be in the mid 150's.
I think of it as a pat on the back and encouragement, not a carrot dangling at the end of a stick. It does specifically say "If every day were like today..."0 -
I find it the opposite of motivating because I think further ahead when visualizing my goals and don like to be reminded that in five weeks I'll still be fat.0

The only time I pay any attention to it is when I go way over my calories, kind of a reminder that I need to be careful and I can't let going over my calories happen all the time.0

I really dislike it. It just reminds me of my mom and her judgmental ways. I really wish there was a way to disable it.0

I like it because you can kind of get a better idea of what food will effect your weight. Haven't used the app long enough to determine if the numbers are right though. To me it's a tool to use though.0

Been here going on two years, this thing on the diary is BS (I am just being very blunt about it..sorry).. And I too wish it would just go away.
edited to add: OP, it is NOT reliable or consistent. One day I will try to eat the same exact thing for 5 weeks and burn the exact same calories for 5 weeks... Anyone tried it?0 -
It isn't reliable. I wish they would take it off. My sister refuses to use this site and her lame excuse was, "It didn't help. I did what it said and there is no way I would drop the weight it said I would. I lost more weight just eating and drinking what I wanted." I was like okay sure whatever, eat mcdonalds and drink your 5 lemonades and 2 chocolate milks a day and be super healthy that way...0
