Dealing with shin pain

I've been walking more and my shins are SO sore. What stretches and or remedies would you recommend because I want to keep walking but my shins are super sore!

How many km or miles do you walk per day or per week?0

Per day usually about 2 miles when I'm exercising0

Shin pains can be frustrating especially as weather conditions start to improve.
Do yourself a solid and visit your local running store (Running Room) and ask about Foam Rollers. There are millions of articles online including helpful YouTube videos that will show you how to "foam roll" your leg muscles.
The target areas will be soleus, gastrocnemeus and anterior tibialis areas ( basically the calve muscles and shin muscles).
In addition use a tennis ball or golf ball and self massage the bottoms of your feet. Apply generous pressure when doing so.
Perhaps you may need to ease up on the walking for now until the pain stops. If this is a case of shin splints, you definitely need to give yourself enough recovery time or the pain will just increase.

Try sitting like this to stretch the muscles in your shins. I like to hold it for 2 minutes at a time, 2-3 times a day in combination with some other stretches. Be sure to point your toes the same way as the woman in the picture.0

I second the comment about shoes. I got myself fitted at a reputable place and they put me in a 9! This after I've been thinking all these years I'm a 7 1/2. Also gave me a shoe w/ more support because my poor arches have fallen. Get thee to the shoe store in your area where they know what they're doing.0
