Any runners here?

I am new to running and am an overpronator. Very curious what shoes you overpronators are wearing. The Nike Equalon was my fav but can't find it anywhere now. I am 20lbs overweight so that is something I have to take into consideration. Have you run in a neutral shoe? My head is spinning with the pro and anti hype around motion control shoes and am really running from here to there trying to figure out which shoe to wear. I tried the Nike Odssey and that is causing me upper neck aches
Can you share what shoes you are wearing to run? Thank you.

I highly recommend getting evaluated at a running store, depending on where you live. Without knowing the degree of pronation or anything else about you, it's hard to make recommendations - they would be better at that than anyone here, and usually offer a great money back period if you're not happy.0

I went to a running store, got evaluated and got Brooks Ghost. I love them.0

Thanks. I did go to a store and they recommended GTS which was a disaster. I am reading a lot of articles that say these specialized shoes are not necessary and you only need regular neutral shoes.
So this is why i am really curious about what others are wearing if they overpronate and whether if works for them. More curious around what the line-up looks like.0 -
Saucony Ride 8 and have these for 2 months, no issues. Prior to that I have used the Ride 7's which are almost identical and the Saucony Triumphs (which I got a ton of miles in these shoes, actually too many).
These are neutral, and have been tested by my running shop each time I purchased to make sure I am not changing in between shoes.0 -
Get a second opinion on your shoes, or try a different store. There are lots of options. I used to run in Saucony, then switched to Pear Izumi, and love them! Try on lots of shoes, walk and run in them, they all feel different. The right shoe is going to make all the difference in the world, and prevent injury.0

I might try getting a second opinion?
i like saucony and brooks personally. i didn't like the feel of nike or asics or new balance, but it's personal preference to a degree0 -

Make sure you are stretching your upper body a little before you run. I usually walk about a half mile before I start my jog and then do a little stretching at that point. I found I have to stretch my upper body or I will get muscle pain in my chest.0 -
One thing I'd recommend is once you find a pair of shoes you like, order 2-3 pairs online. Each year the manufactures "tweak" their shoes, and sometimes make major changes, so that Model X you love today may feel horrible next year.0

^Great advice, right there

I'm not an over pronator but the neutral shoe I wear is the Nike Vomero. It's an expensive shoe but worth the money. I've occasionally found a pair online for cheaper but generally have to buy it at a running store.0

Get fitted professionally at a running store. They are trained to ascertain your stride and how you use your feet when you walk and run. You don't want to end up injured before you start. And quite often, if the fit isn't right, as long as there is no discernible wear and tear, they will allow you to exchange and will re-evaluate you (I speak from first-hand experience on that one).0

I agree with getting evaluated at a running store - ask them to give you at least 3 options and try them all on and see what feels best when you walk around. Give them your price range up front if that is a factor.
I was a new runner and didn't really think that shoes were THAT important until I had knee pain, foot pain, etc. and even went to the dr thinking I just wasn't going to be able to run. On dr's advice, I got new "running shoes" and have been pain free ever since. Definitely worth the time + money spent if you are serious about running more than once a week.
Good luck!0 -

Yes I agree also. I loved the Nike Equalon 4 but it has been discontinued which is really really a shame.0

I went to a running shop when we actually had one, and the Brooks Glycerin is what I ended up with after trying on like 13 different pairs of shoes...all of which the employee asked me to try on and walk around in, and they had a treadmill to try them with as well. I don't remember, but I believe they are a pretty neutral shoe and I really like them. I'm far from an underweight or run 50 miles a week guy, but after 4 different shoes in 2 weeks because my feet/legs/hips/back hurt after even a short jog, these have been what I run in for a little over a year now.0

Thanks so much. Really helpful.
I did a search and found this video also which was quite helpful to me https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QYqDT2pJTuo
Based on this I bought a Saucony and man, it works! I had never used a Saucony before so I am quite surprised to see how well the shoes are made. I tried it yesterday and it was good. I don't run much so that was really nice to get back into a small run without all the excess drama that came with the other shoes. I think the whole pronation and all that is overrated sometimes because the one I used is a neutral and it was fine. I am going to try the ones they have mentioned and you all have to get a good feel of what works.0
