My understanding is that you don't have to but if you start burning too many calories you will need to eat a few more so that the body does not go into starvation mode. Your body will tell you if you need more and the extra calories earned is a guideline to what you could eat.

In agreement with Suave. Think of it like money. That's helping me. Let's say you signed up for 2 lbs per week and it's saying you can consume 1200 per day, that's like your gross pay check. If you exercise, then take out 300 in taxes, so you net 900 (cals). You'll lose more than the 2 lbs (or whatever number you set as your weekly goal) if you do not eat 300 calories to replace the ones you burned, because this thing is telling you that you must GROSS not more than 1200 per day to lose 2 lbs per week. While it may seem very desirous to just stay at 900 to lose more weight, if your body thinks it's starving, you'll throw off your metabolism and get stuck even though you're eating less and that would be unhealthy. My personal feeling... keep it to no less that 100 cals per day below what the tracker tells you, so you know you're consuming enough and you won't be so apt to feel sick, or deprived...which could also thwart your efforts. Good luck girl!
