Love handles are from excess fat, and you get rid of fat by burning more calories than you eat.
Side bends with dumbbells will strengthen your abdominal muscles and by all means do them, but they won't get rid of your love handles (unless they cause you to burn more calories than you eat).0 -

Fat loss.
It doesn't matter how many exercises you do, you cannot spot reduce fat.

Fork put-downs
And table push-aways.
You can't spot reduce. Abdominal exercises work on the muscles beneath, but they don't exercise the fat over the muscles. Side bends with dumbbells work the abs, but they won't get rid of the fat. Keep losing fat and eventually they'll start shrinking. Unfortunately, for most guys the fat around your lower belly/waistline is the last to go.1
