What's your motivation?

Some people here are motivated by appearance, which is perfectly reasonable. I'm mostly motivated by the typical 50+ health issues. I have a family history of heart disease and a tendency for high blood pressure. Plus, I like to stay in good physical shape for outdoors activities.

I am shooting for 180 (which is reasonable for a 5'10" male, maybe still on the high side, if anything). I'm currently at 182. I've been at 180 before and crept back up every time. Trying to break the cycle!

I think understanding your motivation is key to keeping it off. What's yours?

My motivation is myself first. If I'm not healthy, happy, have a positive outlook; I can't be much good to anyone else. I do Kickboxing at 4 am with some awesome people. I started that over a year ago, those women hold me accountable. If I don't show up, I get a text saying "we missed you this AM" or get called out on FB with them posting a photo with me missing. We support each others victory, and defeats.

Don't know if that helps. Also keeping reaching for your goals, if you have achieved it, set another one! The sky is the limit.

Motivation...lost job in December...while job hunting is going ok (and severance packages are good in Canada as a rule)...needed something to accomplish so it is getting in shape, cooking new recipes and doing sone chores around the house.

Under armour keeps posting videos to fb of skinny blond swimsuit models doing pull-ups. That is pretty infuriating/motivating. Lol. I wanna skinny pull-up too.

I used to be obese. Never going back, diet and exercises is part of my lifestyle now, and I think will be for the rest of my life

    Donald Trump.

If he ever needs a heart transplant he can have mine.

Resting heart rate is below 40 these days. Keeping it in great condition for the God Emperor.

I don't think it's motivation you need. Motivation will ALWAYS come and go, wax and wane.

What you need is not motivation, it's discipline. Cultivating discipline is what keeps you going on the days when you don't want to keep going. Discipline is what allows you to reach your goals, regardless of your motivation levels. Discipline allows you to choose between what you want NOW, versus what you want MOST.

Getting disciplined takes time, but once it's done your entire life will improve.

I'm pretty sure Trump is already in need of a heart.

First... I wanted to look good, honestly. Realized I'm not going to reach the look that I want because of loose skin (and honestly don't want to put all that effort into lifting, which I don't like, just for vanity reasons), so for now I'm just aiming not to have to buy new clothes! (I lost 78 pounds).

Second, I wanted to be fit, be able to walks miles without being tired, not be wound up every time I go up the stairs or have to run for a short distance (to catch a bus, whatever, lol!). I'm happy with that now.

I am on the list for knee surgery and I am scared witless. My surgeon recommended that I lose 20 lbs, so I've lost almost 50 since October last year. Now its not just my knees that are benefiting, but I am feeling better, looking better, smaller clothes (4 sizes down) and generally eating in a healthy, sustainable way. So fear started me on the journey, and better health is keeping me on it!

Me, my son, my family. Everyone wants to look good but our health begins on the inside. Long family history of diabetes and heart disease- things that could be controlled or prevented with diet.

My motivation is simple. I got to my highest weight of 191 and standing @ 5'5 that's extremely heavy. In fact I was in the obesity category just 3 months ago. I was uncomfortable with the way I looked and how I felt about myself so instead of making a New Year resolution as most do, I decided to make the change before we got into 2016. Now I'm down 12 pounds and I feel amazing! 36 more to go to be at my goal weight and I have a new incentive as well...to be ready to go on a cruise vacation with my best friend this year! :D

When I went to put on my new years eve outfit, and it didn't fit.. Wore sweatpants and cried. I've lost 8lbs since January 1st, not only looking better without my double chin, but feeling great. No more cookie dough for breakfast or careless wasteful eating.
