Now on crutches for 7 weeks

Hello. I recently had foot surgery, I can not put my foot down for 7 weeks .. Any suggestions. I will continue journaling... Thinking when ready to do upper body work out for arms.

You may not be weight bearing but you can still get lots of upper body and about exercises in0

Been there, done that. Resistance bands are great, but mostly, I REALLY REALLY had to watch my calorie intake because I didn't burn cardio calories as much. Just as soon as you're able, see if you can get in the swimming pool. Worked wonders for my physical therapy/ recovery, as well as getting back into a little cardio.

Best to check with your doctor first in terms of what is safe for your specific situation. After my ankle surgery, I would go to the mall and "walk" laps on my crutches. Once cleared, I started upper body lifting that was either seated on laying on a bench. After that (again cleared by doctor) I started swimming.0

Focus on your logging. Upper body when your doc okays it. (I had foot surgery a month ago, I sympathize).0

Honestly it is frustrating. Today 1st day off meds. But my goal is to keep low intake. That is my downfall as normally I am active cycling downhill skiing and hiking. A week after I can walk I am off on vacation so determined to be lighter.0

I have been advised no activity for a few weeks and though I have crutches. I can not put any weight on foot. Bone surgery resulting in a few screws .. Have to avoid bumping etc. I intend to use knee cart to roam as I am sure to get cabin fever . Thanks ladie for all feedback. The only advantage now is I get to practice more music. Hmmm wonder if visualizing been thinner is considered exercise. Lol!0

Definitely agree with watching the calorie intake! Something I messed up whilst I was on crutches!
I had 6months on crutches due to a tendon injury, during which time I lost all motivation to do anything and probably comfort ate far too much!
Then once I'd had my operation I had 6weeks stuck in bed, at which point the cabin fever, boredom, etc, caused me to snack and eat way too much of what I wouldn't normally eat!
The only plus side was that using crutches is pretty much an upper body workout, so once you can move about cover as much ground as possible! I ended up with bigger arms and a bigger gut lol!
Hopefully with it being bone surgery you can start getting about quicker than I could, so good luck and I hope you recover quickly!0 -
I am 2 weeks post foot surgery ( navicular bone removal, tendon repair and transfer) after one week in bed , I am now non-weight barring for next 6-7 weeks.
I am keeping my calories around 1300 but well planned and all very nutrient dense to assure good nutrition for healing. I pre made and froze healthy meals and smoothie packs prior to surgery to make this easier for myself.
I just add in fresh fruit, greens etc
I have been going out for "crutch walks"
Everyday since Saturday. Only 20 mins right now, but will increase as my foot can tolerate.
I have a weigh bench set and Dumbbells ready to go once I get clearance.
( it's my right foot so I am stuck at home)
I am determined not to put on weight, but it's tough.
Good luck !!! We can make it thru and come out stronger at the end

Thank you for the support. I am also trying to keep calorie to 1300 intake. Unfortunately I am not as organized but my husband is good at making healthy meals. I am starting to move but the foot is still very sensitive. It has been s trying few weeks. But I am happy to say I have not sought out comfort food. I went from spending a week taking care of a family member battling cancer while hobbling on knee injury.. Flying 4 hrs the night prior to have surgery ..day 3 after surgery our 10 year old dog lost her battle with cancer. And this is not made up. I believe we are due to some good news. So I am focused on me staying on track. Enough has occurred out of my control. Honestly after re-reading the above .. I shake my head ... Things good or bad come in 3.0

Focus big time on diet...Injuries happen...I was recently out for about 6 weeks and could do very little exercise wise except go to the gym and do upper body stuff...I'm an avid cyclist so there was a big drop in my exercise activity...focusing on my diet and eating well and getting the rest that my body needed was pretty key. When I healed up, I just picked up where I left off...well, not quite...I had to take a couple of weeks to work back up to everything, but muscle memory is a wonderful thing...it'll be normal to see a drop in fitness, but it comes back pretty quickly.0
