Portion Control

I don't have a problem when it comes to working out and exercising and running and stuff like that. My main problem is portion control. Anyone that knows polynesians well will know that we love to eat, as in next to breathing, eating is just as necessary. haha If I can get my portion control under wraps I know I can melt off a lot of my weight in no time. Does anyone have any tips or have the same problem that has found something that has worked for them?

i think the best thing I ever did for myself in regards to losing weight was buying a diet scale. It was like $5 for a plastic one that I found at the grocery store.

I must say that in the past the food scale does help alot and i just bought a new one and they are just $5 it does help0

I have that problem, too! The only thing that consistently works for me is to religiously measure my food. And I can't eat it if I don't measure and track it. Otherwise, it's bigger portions and back for seconds. Whenever I measure and track my food, I always lose weight, even if it's in small increments, as is sometimes the case. Needless to say, I'm constantly cleaning my measuring cups and spoons!0

It sounds dumb, but we bought some smaller plates.
If you limit yourself to one plateful of food, it works - and it kinda tricks you into thinking that you've got more food than you have.
I also eat a lot of snacks during the day (nuts, celery, fruit) so that I'm not so hungry at dinner time.0 -
I like to pre-portion as much as I can when putting food away so when I'm having pretzels I just grab a single serving bag, walk away from the kitchen, and eat only that bag. Or when my boyfriend and I make up dinner with more than two servings I separate out the rest into single-serve ziplock containers and take it with me for lunch the next day.0

Hubby and I now use smaller plates, it's a kind of optical illusion but it works. our portions are good now.0

Food scales and replacing some foods with less calorie dense foods (i.e. replace fries with veggies). It takes time to train yourself.0

The food scale is a great idea I would also suggest Diet pills they suppress your appetite and can help u feel full sooner.0

I LOOOOOOVE to eat and eat and eat -- I don't even really eat junkfood (I mean I DO but not all the time) but I just love love love eating.
(The following is for when you aren't cooking/weighing your own food -- and I don't cook at ALL so ... ^_^)
For me, I don't actually do anything special really - I do tend to make myself eat at least some of whatever high fiber food I have (salad/veggies etc) to fill up on that first and because I won't just gobble those down generally.
Then I just try to eat a little bit slower and mentally track about how much I think I've had, calorie wise. then at points where I think I might have had "enough" I stop for a few minutes and take stock of how I feel. How full does my stomach feel, how bad do I want to eat another siu mai (had dim sum for lunch today!), etc. Then if I still want another bite or 2, I go ahead and have it. Then I stop and evaluate again.
Usually around the second stop you're like "ok I'm full and if I stop now I will be satisfied til my next meal".
Now...if you're eating really high calorie food or your calories are SUPER restricted for each meal this might still not work but just slowing down and exerting a little mental control really helps me.

i don't think that's dumb at all.. I eat yogurt, oatmeal and peanut butter with a BABY SPOON lol0 -
somewhere on the internet, I think from an ad here, I saw portion control dishes or inserts that you just put the food in the divided spaces.0
