A bit concerned? Aching joints

Hi Folks

Would like some advice from you fantastic MFP'ers.

For the last 3 days my joints have been aching - ankles, knees, wrists and fingers. My fingers are puffy and so are my ankles - there not huge, and you would probably not notice - but I feel like I have puffed up.

I originally thought it might be exercise - but it seemed strange it was in more than one joint. I then thought it might have been the chinese that we had on Saturday - but I would have thought that the MSG was out of my system by now?

I don't tend to suffer from edema - only had swollen ankles in later pregnancy.

Have been drinking about 1.5 to 2 litres of water a day.

Any ideas?

Its not severe enough to stop me from walking ect - just a nagging ache which is troubling me, and slight pins and needles in one hand where it feels particularly puffy.

Thanks for you help

I had something similar happen to me a few months back...My fingers were swollen and felt stiff to move..then my ankles and I my joints ached...I was in fact dehydrated and I typically drink at least 8-8oz glasses of water a day...It still wasn't enough at that point.

    Hi,

I agree that you need to see a quilified medical practitioner about your symptoms, you never know what some weirdo may tell you on a notice board! ;-)

But to reassure you I do get similar puffed up fingers and feet and slightly sore joints after chinese restaurant some times. And in some cases when I eat a variety of very rich foods, so not possible to pin point cause. No other issues and it goes away a few days later, espacially if I clean up my act and drink lots of water.

I am not saying that it is the same though, just that it might be a slight intollerance to something, but it is worth checking it out if it does not go away.

I'd make an appointment now but still see how it does otherwise there will be a big delay. Or call NHS Direct.

I'd say it's unlikely to be exercise as that wouldn't affect all the joints like that, similarly for arthritis or gout. Personally I've never puffed up from food like MSG, but I gather that doesn't last long.

With no other symptoms like rash or breathing it's not an allergy.

The combination of the swelling, aches and pins and needles would suggest to me it could be hormone related.

Thanks Berry. Going to see how it goes today.

Funnily enough Hubby has had flu symptoms the last couple of days and although I feel well apart from the aching - I'm wondering now if we've picked up a virus and mines not coming out as flu??? I dismissed it as I don't have the sweats or the cold symtoms - but I guess I could have some very mild form???

    Anyway thanks guys
