I love food

I really want to lose weight and live a healthier lifestyle, but I feel like I have no self control when it comes to my eating. I have good intentions, but it's hard for me to say no to certain foods. I wish my will power was stronger. I am not sure how to change my mindset and find the motivation to choose the healthier option.

Losing weight doesn't necessarily mean you have to stop eating certain foods altogether, it's all about moderation. Sometimes if you're really craving that pizza, you just gotta do an extra workout to make it fit. Don't forbid yourself anything because then you're more likely to binge.

I love food. I love cooking food. When I first made the decision to start eating better, moderating my portions I was scared I'd have to give up all my favorite foods. I haven't. There are so many healthy alternate recipes for foods I love, and sometimes even if there isn't, treating myelf to my favorite meal now and then so long as it fits in your calorie plan for the day isn't going to kill the diet. Sometimes I have to have compromise with food. But it's all in moderation, and sometimes I have to use my creativity when it comes to food Iike that's too high in calorie. Sometimes I have to find a recipe that is less calories but still taste amazing, and sometimes I just have to eat that one thing you really want once in a blue moon.

Loving food is good. Next step is to widen the number of foods you like to include healthy food. I am teaching myself to enjoy the subtler flavors of the amazing fruit and vegetables we can buy. Healthy recipes are more interesting and satisfying. I am learning to see healthy food as comforting or fun or escapist or strengthening or whatever I needed junk to be. Eating healthy food is a way of caring for yourself. As I've included more healthy food in my day, my craving for simplistic fatty food has decreased. Another vital factor is getting enough sleep. On days when I'm tired, it is harder to make good choices. I think that losing weight is about learning about your needs as a person and caring for yourself as well as you can. Then food becomes just food instead of a substitute for friends or fun or relaxation or whatever is missing from your life.

Get this. When you have to think about and carefully plan what you are going to eat, when you can't just mindlessly eat until your brain finally realises that your body is uncomfortable.

You will enjoy food even more. When there is less of it you learn to slow down and enjoy it. Slowing down helps your brain to get the correct signals before your body is uncomfortably overfull. When you have a limit on your calories you learn to really enjoy them and are more selective about the quality of them Meaning you will tend not to eat things you don't get much pleasure out of eating.

Food is delicious. We need it to live. There is no reason not to love it.
