Hiking calorie estimate

Went hiking for 2 hours. Carried my 36 lb toddler on my back for 90% of it. Some uphill some downhill. Mfp estimates that I burned 850 calories. I input 40 mins of it uphill with 10-20lb load, and 80 mins cross country hiking. It would be awesome if I did in fact burn that many calories!

Hiking uphill actually can burn a lot of calories. Downhill, not so much. When you say cross-country, do you mean completely off any type of trail whatsoever?

Woo -hoo, lucky you! I sometimes add weights to my back pack to get a good burn on. Waiting for the weather to change here. Hike on, and your little one is one lucky kid to have a hiking mama!0
