New Snacks

Hi everyone. I need some help. I find myself very tired after lunch, and need some suggestions on what kinds of snacks are good for energy, but won't bust my "calorie bank". I already snack on fat free yogurt with granola, raw veggies, fruit and sometimes a Nutri-Grain bar or Quaker multi-grain 'rice' cakes. I've been under my calorie goal every day for 20 days, and have picked up my walking schedule. I'm concerned that I'm not getting enough calories--this morning I woke up starving. I drink up to 8 glass of water a day (have pretty much banned soda--one 8oz glas yesterday) to be sure my body is not thirsty. How close to bed time do you eat? What do you eat when you're below your goal? (with exercise yesterday, i was 998 calories below goal--is that too much?). I just really need some good advice on what to eat.

Do you have a wegmans near you?? One of my favorite guilt free snacks are these cakes called Coco Pop Cakes. I spread a wedge of laughing cow cheese on them. They are multigran and low fat, low cal, low carb and pretty good.

Definitely up your intake calories! You are feeling tired because your body is slowing down it's metabolism!

Eat please =) You can up your fruits & veggies for healthy "filler" calories

    Congrats on all the exercise!

I was wondering if that was the problem--kinda' new at this calorie counting, so I didn't want to 'over do it'. I have no problem eating more! LOL

If you are 900 calories below goal AND you are hungry, your body is definitely trying hard to tell you something. Listen to your body. It will let you know exactly how many of your exercise calories to eat back. In addition to low and fat free snacks, I like to snack on fiber bars. They boost my daily intake of fiber and protien while also giving me a little energy boost. My favorites are FiberPlus by Kellog's. Don't underestimate your body's need for SOME fat. I have lost easier this time than any time in my middle aged life and I have eaten almost to the limit every day. As a side note, as long as I stay in calorie goal, I use the protein and fiber guidelines as minimums instead of maximums.

Eat fresh whole foods. Raw nuts, fresh fruit, vegetables (carrots, celery), etc.

Avoid the processed food (NutriGrain bars & other snack bars). Also, you may wish to ditch the non-fat yogurt unless it's Plain or low sugar. It's possible that some of these sugary and/or processed foods are causing your energy slump.

mmmm....I love coco pops from wegman;s too! I eat them plain. Or I dip them in honey. But the cow cheese with it sounds like a great idea too!

As for exercising and being under by 900 calories...doesn't say on here that you're supposed to eat those calories that you just exercised off? Or yes, you will be starving. I think there's a link about it on here somewhere. Even though you exercise, after you log it on here, it makes your calories go up again and it says here you're supposed to eat them (again). It's a weird concept, but even if u feel like u dont want to eat what u just burned off, maybe u should try to at least eat half the calories u burned off if u are leary about eating the whole 900 again. Your body needs food and energy.

But what do I know, i've only been doing this a month...but I did hit my 10 lb. goal yesterday. Woo Hoo!

I'm new here too, so I'm sure I missed some info. I didn't think being hungry was a good thing...and I know protein is good for you too. I'm going to the store and look at some more ideas. I love fruit--was just wary of the sugars. I don't like all veggies, but there are enough that i do like that i sould be able to find some more 'snacks'. Thanks!
