I have a problem. In the morning, I eat most of my calories for breakfast, which makes my lunch and dinner extremely light. Will this hurt my weight loss?

I never go over my 1200 calories during the day, but most if not all are normally consumed in the morning. Will this hurt my weight loss?

It may depend on what are you eating for b'fast. And what is "extremely light"?

No, you’ll be fine. There are multiple intermittent fasting programs that require eating 100% of your calories within 3-4 hours then eating nothing the rest of the day.

No, I do the opposite. Light breakfast and lunch with a nice heavy dinner and I've been losing weight fine. It works for me because it lets me indulge in stuff I love and gives me something to look forward to throughout the day.

IMO, I don't think it matters how you distribute your calories throughout the day as long as you are in a calorie deficit for the day.

If eating this way satisfies you, and you're not starving by dinner, I say go for it.

Someone on MFP put it this way..and I though it was a nice way of looking at it...

Eat like a king for breakfast
Eat like a prince for lunch
Eat like a pauper for dinner

Kind of an interesting way of putting it....

I think you have to eat when you are hungry...and if you are eating a lot for breakfast I think that is ok...you don't need to eat a lot else throughout the day if that is what your body is used to, as long as you are eating enough calories for the amount of workouts you are doing.

    Good luck!

I heard that people who eat most of their calories in the morning as opposed to the evening lose weight faster and are generally not as overweight as the rest of us. It's a good habbit to have... don't worry it is not hurting you but probably helping you.

wow, I was so nervous after eating some almonds and realizing I was at my limit in every category. I feel full and it lasts for hours and hours. I was just super nervous that it would ruin the small amount of progress I have made using this website and didn't want to go back to square one. Thanks everyone.

No it won't be a problem - in fact I've heard it's better to have the majority of your calories for breakfast, a medium sized lunch and a light dinner, I think because you move more throughout the day and most people tend to settle down and remain fairly inactive in the evening.

Yea I've heard that eating most of your calories is the morning is better too, it speeds up your metabolism. I wish I had time to make a big breakfast in the mornings but I don't and I'm just not that hungry in the morning, especially if I workout.. Good for you! :)

That's probably one of the healthier ways to go. You've got all day to burn it off. As long as you're not starving at the end of the day and if it's working for you, I'd say stick with it!

Since I get into work late I eat the lion's share of my calories in the evening. I've been a little concerned about eating late then going to bed. When your metabolism slows down. So far that hasn't seemed like a problem, I've gotten to my goal. I may have to tweak it when I up my calories to maintain.

But I'm a firm believer in taking a sensible approach and listening to your body, then making adjustments as needed.

Agreed... eat on your own schedule... if you're hungry, eat.... if not, don't..... I front load most of my cals also... I usually have a small dinner... I eat all day (every few hours), but i taper off my cals at night. I like to eat during the day so I don't feel tired or cranky while at work or unfueled before my training sessions. I feel more stable spreading my cals out and that's what has always worked the best for me during my weightloss journey. It's all up to you and what you find works best for you.

As long as your macros are fine and your total cal intake is good it won't stop your weightloss... frequency, timing, and size is all a personal choice and certain methods work for some but not all... you need to find your own custom schedule.

Personally I prefer a like breakfast, a meduim sized lunch and my evening meal will be the biggest (between 450 - 600 cals)

It's worked for me thus far.

I too prefer a light breakfast, mainly because I struggle to eat in the mornings without feeling sick....

My evening meal is usually my largest meal, as I find that it prevents me from snacking later in the evening, but if I'm not going to be home unitl later I'll have a slightly bigger lunch, or snack on some fruit and a lighter evening meal.

Everyone is different, so do whatever suits you best.

I eat most of my calories in the morning as well. I munch on mostly veggies through out the day and try to keep my dinner and after very light. I work out 5-6 times per week so balancing the calories burned with what is left on my allotment for the day seems easier to keep track of. I have lost 90 pounds since January. I will say this, everyone has to find what works for them, Everybody is different. If this works for you stick with it. If it isn't switch it up. Just make those calories healthy!
