I have linked my fitbit to myfitnesspal and I thought the walking I do would automatically be put in my exercise but it isn't. Am I not doing something right?

It won't automatically track your walking as exercise in MFP. You have to track exercise separately. If you have a Charge HR and your exercise elevates your heart rate to the Fat Burn level or higher, MFP will automatically add calories for that, but if you also track your exercise, it will double up the extra calories it gives you.

I have a Charge HR and I just use those automatic calories to determine the extra I will eat. I don't add my exercise to MFP separately.

Your steps will start to accumulate towards your calorie goal (making your available calories increase) on MFP as the day goes on, unless you disable negative calorie adjustments. Anything other than walking, you need to log separately in MFP, and it will go over to Fitbit.

You will do great! There are a lot of details, especially when you are using two different programs. I love using Fitbit and MFP together and I'm sure you will get the hang of it soon!
