What would you do with 90 days?

If you could devote your life to your own health for 90 days, what would you do with the time? What would your priority be? I am seriously thinking of taking a sabbatical to kick myself into shape--what should my plan be?

I've found all I need is about 4-5 days.

I take a backpack full of food, grab a friend or lover, and go on a 4 day hike. Four days of constant movement, walking 6-10 hours a day with a full backpack gets me SO fit. I can only eat what I carry, so I eat on a great schedule and get myself out of snacking habits.

I want to make habits that are sustainable with my everyday life/stress level, too. Taking a sabbatical wouldn't help with that. I over-eat when I'm stressed!

Wow, I wish I could afford to do that!

You should be able to make a tremendous amount of progress in 90 days. On day 1, get a complete physical and record all of your vital stats, and ensure that you are ok to exercise. If your health permits, I would be working out 5-6 days a week, an hour per day (that is me, you will have your own standards). Do some research on exercise or buy 5-6 sessions with a personal trainer. Maybe look into exercise groups in your area (swimming, biking, running, etc.) to start building relationships with fit and active people.

I would enroll in or otherwise find as much information as possible about nutrition, maybe devote 3-4 hours per week to it. If getting a certification would motivate you, maybe that would be worthwhile. Prepare most of your food at home, enjoy the experience of shopping and eating healthy, back off of the fast food and chain restaurants except for social engagements. Take a close look at your cupboards and what is in the fridge, and consider replacing the less nutritional stuff with more nutritional alternatives as the weeks go by.

    Get some sleep!

Most importantly, plan on what your life is going to be like on day 91, when you return to the routines of the"real world". What positive habits and controls can you implement in your life that are sustainable indefinitely? I think that is the key, and if you can emerge from your sabbatical with the habits and a plan to be fit and healthy day in and day out, those 3 months will the most positively life-altering period of your life!
