Stay away from gimmicks. If you stick to MFP and do this the right way you'll be much more healthy and happy!0

800 calories a day is incredibly unhealthy. I wouldn' start any diet that recommends me eating less than 1200 per day or buying ANY sort of product.0

Wow, 800 cal is really low. It first blush I am in agreement with the others who have posted. I try not to judge a book by its cover though. Is there some medical reasoning behind it? Can you explain the principles of the program?0

Use MFP as intended and be successful! Ain't no reason to eat only 800 calories, learn to eat for the rest of your life.0

Skip it, there is far too much actual science out there showing the long term results of such crazy plans don't work and can very likely backfire. One or two days no problem, but over 72 hours of very low calories you start to mess with the metabolism in the wrong way. That cannot be a 'health' plan, just a fast trick to drop water weight. Always put your health first. Being thin does not equal being healthy.0

I would read the book if you are diabetic or pre diabetic. It is not a 'FAD' diet it is based on research done by scientists at Newcastle university after they noticed the effects on blood sugar on patients one week post bariatric surgery.
It is evidence based & peer reviewed which is more than can be said for many diets.0 -
I've not read the book but I was under the impression that it is a diet specifically aimed at type II diabetics (where the primary goal is to lower blood sugar and weight loss is a secondary side effect) rather than a general population weight loss diet?0

So they are "resetting" your system on the 8 week cycle?0 -
I should have said if you are type 2 diabetic.0

I used to work with a cardiologist years ago. Many (most) of his cardiology patients were overweight, had Type II diabetes or were pre-diabetic, and had elevated cholesterol and blood pressure. He used to advise new patients to lose 10% of their weight as quickly as possible, no concerns about "crash dieting," because even a 10% drop in weight would result in major improvements in their blood profiles.
This diet appears to be based upon the same reasoning ... that a quick and rapid weight loss is far more beneficial than harmful to those who have Type II diabetes or are pre-diabetic.

When you put the health benefits of a type 2 overweight diabetic losing weight against the health risks of losing weight rapidly there is a clear winner0

Just another fad diet, that never works!!0

You know I don't think it's that bad an approach for some ...and the 800 calorie is a time limited initial start

Sure it's lower carb but that's because it's for diabetics / IR but it's based on the meditteranean diet, elements of IF if that works for you and getting active

Actually, for those who have Type II diabetes or are pre-diabetic, it's not a fad, it's a diet to quickly improve or reverse the problem. I worked with the cardiologist long before the term Metabolic Syndrome was coined, but elevated blood sugars were the norm in his cardiology patients. The health risks associated with diabetes are legion, and are rising every year.
I will also say that in my experience, obese patients often found it far easier to go on a quick "fad" diet to lose the weight, rather than the slow and sensible route (like is advocated at MyFitnessPal). Maybe it's because to tell a person who obviously has issues with portion control to "eat what you like, just less of it" is often as realistic as telling them to build their own spaceship to Mars. Many need to be blasted out of their usual eating habits.
I wouldn't advocate this diet for everyone, but for the targeted audience I think the benefits probably outweigh the risks.2
