Supplement Question

So I'm not one for quick weight loss pills. I try to do it naturally.. Well I found this stuff on the vitamin aisle the other day called Tonalin CLA. Never heard of it. Done research and it seems pretty legit. My question is has anyone here tried it and if they have what side effects they had and if it's worth the money.

I would suggest talking to your doctor and seeing what they say about it.

Who needs doctors when I have a bank of knowledge here?

Your bank of knowledge here is wonderful but your physician knows your medical history and what meds you are on now. These diet pills are nothing to take lightly.

Outside of steroids and creatine, there hasn't been huge any scientific leaps in supplementation recently. Some studies have shown some POSSIBLE benefit. And that includes CLA products. However, even if there was a definitive boost, the cost to benefit ratio is prohibitive. Some studies showed that upwards of 5g of CLA needed to be consumed, some showed 3g. Using today's prices that's about $2/day for a POSSIBLE effect. Most of the studies have pointed towards that effect not always being beneficial (essential fatty acid issues). But as always, the studies are varied. There is no direct evidence that CLA will do anything.

But like was said, ask your doc. Everyone's different.

I've been taking 3600 mg of CLA for the last few months (3 1200mg geltabs 3 times a day before meails) and I can't say if it's helped or not because I lost weight before I started on it and I lost weight while I was on it as well. It is a naturally occurring fatty acid found in meats and dairy and there have been studies showing benefits as well as detrimental effects just like pretty much anything else around. For the next few weeks I'm on my 'cleanse' session so that means no supplements other than vitamins and protein shakes so we'll see if taking them out of my routine changes anything. It's not that expensive though, I've been ordering the Natrol brand 90 caplet (30 day supply) for about $11/bottle through Amazon.

I have just started taking CLA and have also looked it up everywhere to see what the side effects are from taking it, as I do everything I decide to try, and have not seen any side effects whatsoever. I read an article in Men's Fitness about it which intrigued me. I have been stuck on a 2 month plateau and decided to try it and see if it helps, The magazine made it sound pretty interesting but they also said there hasn't been enough studies on it as did everywhere I looked.

Here is a few links that I look stuff up on, I also have several supplement books I research through:

Also check out http://www.bodybuilding.com/ they have some awesome forums that a lot of personal trainers respond to.

Here is another one that is on the other end of the spectrum with the natural approach

Essential fatty acids have also been proven to help support weight loss and they have an anti-inflammatory application to them as wel.. Win-win.
