I have the same problem and the list of foods is getting longer!!!
Bananas, tomatos , salmon, peanuts, avocados, duck eggs, seeds! At at my wits end!!!! I never get pain if I eat junk tho????0 -
I had had the same thing. Really bad stomach pains I had to have a GI ultrasound done and they didn't find anything and I just had an endoscopy done this week. All the sudden this morning I realized it is foods high in potassium that make me sick (bananas, avocados, unsweetened dried coconut, and dates). I eat a lot of larabars which have dates that's what made me catch it because I looked up what bananas and dates have in common and they are both high in potassium. Salmon is also high in potassium so that would be why so people are having issues there. I am meeting with my GI doctor in a week or so and I will report back with what she says.0 -
This happens to me and just started in the last couple years. I have learned bananas have a latex substance in them, and I have developed an allergy to eating this.

Seems latex and cross-pollination may be to blame for the bananas and pineapple. I have a friend that is allergic to melon, bananas, and pineapple.

Well they don't make my stomach hurt, but I feel kinda queasy after eating bananas and also watermelon. They both leave me wishing I hadn't eaten them, but i really looooove watermelon. I can tolerate bananas in pudding or bread fine, but to sit there and eat a whole banana makes me feel gross. I thought it was just me!0

Keep a food diary of what you eat daily. If it happened immediately after you ate the banana that does not necessarily mean it is caused from the banana. It can be caused from what you ate the night before. Bananas are known to be an antacids to help with acid reflux and heartburn. I have had GERD and IBS for years along with gastritis, stomach ulcers and all sorts of craziness. I see a gastrointerologist for all of this. It is important to keep a diary of what you ate, when you ate it and how you feel. It most likely is not acid reflux. You are most like having an allergic reaction or IBS (or another digestive disorder). If you feel that way, then don't eat them.0

Its amazing what we grow intolerant too. And frustrating as heck! I discovered a few years ago that I have Celiac. Then 2 years after that my gallbladder failed (no stones, it simply stopped working). I discovered shortly after the Celiac that I cannot have Oats or Buckwheat. In the past year I've discovered that I cannot eat Iceberg lettuce, Celery, and now Romaine. I get a stomachache, dizzy, and throw up. Sometimes I am lucky and even get watery diarrhea. Its just *awesome*... not.0

Bananas make me very sick. They didn't years ago, I could eat 2 - 3 in a sitting and feel fine, but now 1 banana...yikes. 2 bananas? Holy crap, I cannot get off the sofa. They make me very bloated, give me a lot of indigestion (burps/gas), and stomach pain.
I've had severe GERD since I was 8 years old and bananas used to always agree with me so I think if bananas upset you most likely it's something other than GERD.
About three years ago I developed IBS & GP (gastroparesis) seemingly out of nowhere. Now I can't eat fruits/vegetables, fiber, whole grains, caffeine, carbonation, or a lot of fat in one sitting.0 -
Providing all health related illness is ruled out then here is a simple old wives recipe that we have used for generations. Just simply sprinkle one teaspoon of sugar to each banana eaten. Its worth the extra 20 or so calories to stop that cramp. Never eat them unripened.0

Banana makes me feel uncomfortable around my throat and in my tummy. But cooked banana (baked, fried) is fine. And I can eat the other "derivations" of banana like plantains, the mini chewy banana that they sold frozen at the asian market (they taste like chewy fudge, so good) - don't know the name.0

I have 2 co workers allergic to bananas (both confirmed allergy from an allergist). One gets itchy swelling on mouth and diarreah, the other just gets cramps and diarrhea. My kid also has multiple food allergies and nausea and tummy aches are a common symptom if those foods are eaten.
If it's concerning to you, go see an allergist. Otherwise, don't eat bananas.0 -
If bananas always give you a stomach ache clearly there is an issue why would you continue to eat them?0

I found this post just now googling about it because it happened to me this morning. I ate a banana for breakfast on an empty stomach as I have done many times in the past but was doubled over from cramping stomach pain high in the stomach, (above belly button.) I'm also having cold chills and nausea. It basically feels the same as it felt a few weeks ago when I had gastroenteritis. It's been going on about two hours since I ate the banana.
I don't have a latex or birch allergy and I don't have any itching or hives. No problems with avocados or kiwis either. The banana I ate was perfectly ripe I thought, but maybe next time I'll wait for more brown spots and then try it to see what happens. Bananas used to give me heartburn as a teenager but that went away for a few years and I thought I was fine to eat them again.
I read a very long thread on another site about this and noticed that it seemed like more than 50% of the people who said this was happening said that it began following their first pregnancy. I'm also five months PP and this is the first time it's ever happened. I wonder if there is a reason so many women can't have bananas after their first baby. I don't understand the correlation.0 -
Didn't read all the comments, but I get this with bananas and avocado. Sounds like it might be intolerance to a protein that is found in banana, avocado, kiwi, and chestnuts. It's mild for me, so I still eat avocado and banana, but sometimes I pay a price for doing so.

This post popped up on my home page. I wanted to add, I am allergic to latex, and have not been able to eat banana for many years. Also, Mango and papaya are horrible for me (they cause anaphylactic symptoms.. so very serious). I also have something called "oral allergy syndrome" where some foods bother me when they are raw, but cooking them helps a lot. Symptoms of OAS are not just digestive, but a really strange itchy-throat feeling, tingling- it is hard to explain. It is related to having terrible hayfever. Some plants with similar chemicals in them as ragweed, birch trees, and grass also bother me. Google Oral Allergy syndrome, and see an allergist if you think you might have it.0

It's not down in my intestines/bowels (i don't need to use the bathroom), it's more 2-3 inches above my belly button in my stomach. I'm fine with banana flavoured milk or banana smoothies but if I dare eat a full banana I'm in agony afterwards. I googled it but couldn't find anything useful, except maybe it's a case of eating under ripe fruit. Not really a fan of mushy bananas though.
Does anyone else get this? I find it tends to go away after a while, but the agony and nausea is unbearable while it's there.
Any advice would be very helpful!
It could be an OAS to ragweed pollen. Also watch for reactions to chamomile tea, melon and raw cucumber.0
