So I bought some diet pills looking for a quick fix and something to boost my weight loss. I am hearing a lot of scary things about them though. They are called phenphedrine. I am really scarred now because Idon't want to damage my body or even worse die because I am trying to loose weight so bad. But i did pay a lot of money for them and have 3 bottles left. I am conflicted on what i should do. Should i just risk it and take them or get rid of them? I am eating healthy and working out but i want some faster results.

Any advice anyone can give is appreciated.

P/S. I dont need nasty posts back. just real suggestions and comments. I dont need a reply saying Im stupid etc etc. Because we all know if you are on this site you have considered anything to lose weight even pills and surgery. ;)

  • How have you been feeling so far taking them? Would you be able to take the 3 bottles back? I dont know thats a tough one. Best bet would probably be to consult your doctor and ask him or her. Nothing is worth risking your life for!

I've never heard of phephedrine but I took Phentermine for a while and had really good success with it and I didn't suffer any long term side effects. I was under the care of my doctor and she did blood work every three months to make sure nothing was going wrong. I know a lot of people that tried the Phentermine and had horrible side effects and weren't able to take them so different people will react differently.

Did you get them from a doctor? How are you feeling while taking them?

I have to preface what I say with this--I have an arrhythmia that is aggravated viciously by stimulants, so this stuff would probably land me in the hospital or worse.

That said, I wouldn't do it, even if I could. I've never known anyone to lose weight with OTC stimulants who didn't gain it back when the time came to stop the stimulants and start with a maintenance lifestyle. But my advice is to do what you're going to do, but watch your health, watch your vitals, keep hydrated, and make the lifestyle changes necessary to keep the weight off so you're not dependent upon a diet pill that may have harmful side effects over the long term.

    Good luck!

I'd recommend taking them with you to your doctor and asking about them. Some diet pills, when taken exactly as directed, and if you don't have any preexisting conditions, and aren't on and medications that might cause an adverse reaction, aren't terrible for you. The problem is most people do not take them as directed. And the one's that do, many have side effect because of medications or medical conditions. So clear them with your doctor first.

That said, if he/she approves them, and if you follow the directions exactly, I don't see a problem using them for a limited run. You do need to make an entire lifestyle change so you don't regain the weight after you stop taking the pills. As an added tool, I don't think they have to cause lasting damage as long as they are used correctly, and as long as you don't become reliant on them or expect them to be a magic bullet.

I would try taking them back. I just got lead poisoning from herbalife...detox is not fun and couldve done some serious damage to my organs. :( Ive heard very bad things about PhenPhen but Ive also seen people lose a lot of weight and not have any side effect at all... Depends on how you feel.

cjiggetts I see on your profile that you dont want to be on crash diets anymore but arent pills a crash diet ? They promise a success that treatens your life and it keep you focusing on the outcome. Why not to focus on the process of living healty and eating well. Every day will be a success if you consider long term habits changing instead of waiting for a number on a stupid scale. Arent you fed up of gaining your weight back after a diet ? I'm sure its what you have to expect with pills and putting your healt and life, Yes life! at risk.

Be good to you by giving you credit for any single thing you succeed to do in your journey to good healt. Have fun to be active with your kids. Consider yourself to be a great person to be in this process. Take care !

How about you hold onto them and try to do it the natural way. THEN if you see no results try them. Truth be told, you can get the same burn by drinking a lot of green tea. (I use two teabags per cup of tea). Mostly its a placebo effect. I would return them but I know some places wont take them back. I would also tell your doctor what you plan on doing and see what he says.

I did have a friend I worked with have a heart attack by taking diet pills. This was a active person who was a runner. Her heart now has scar tissue on it and she now has arrythmia. I was there when she had the heart attack. It was HORRIBLE.

You can totally do this girl. You dont need to waste your money on that stuff. If it really did work, the whole world would be skinny and everyone would just take it. There is no miracle pill (unfortunately)....

I am a pharmacy tech & diet pills are constantly recalled due to health concerns from the FDA.
Diet pills help you lose weight because the phenedrine speeds up your heart rate forcing it to pump your blood faster
& harder. This change makes you burn calories. The second the pills wear off you WILL gain the weight back.

    What a WASTE of $$ & your heart!! :(

I have heard good things about slim quick. Those help to even out your hormones
& more. The only bad thing in them is caffeine.

    Good luck!

All, thanks for the advise/wisdom. I decided to stop taking the pills and to try it the natural way of counting my calories and working out. I jog a lot and that would be crazy to just have a heart attack because of these damn pills! Thanks everyone for waking me up!

I like to think of this journey as a marathon not a sprint. It's a lifestyle change. It's okay to take your time with it, although I know how bad you want to get that weight off. Trust me, when it starts to come off after all your hard work, you'll be incredibly proud of yourself :) Hang in there! Glad you decided not to use the pills :)

I would check with the company (or the store) to see if they have a money-back guarantee...many do!!!
