so I got some Stevia to try in my tea this morning instead of sugar and i have this weird after taste in my mouth. Does it take some getting used too? I wasn't having much sugar in my cup but thought i could lower my overall sugar intake by using something else.

I use it every day. It is a different flavor than regular sugar, but I do not find it unpleasant. I have never noticed an aftertaste though. It only takes a little to make it sweet...maybe you used too much? If you don't like it, and sugar fits in your calorie goals, stick with sugar!

You also might want to consider getting another brand to see if you have the same problem. From what I've read, stevia is SUPER sweet, so they "cut" it w/various things to make it more sugar-like. So, you might be having the issue w/the stevia, or it might be with whatever it's mixed with.

It did take a bit of getting used to.

I also found the aftertaste is there if i use to much. With stevia, it is best to undersweeten. In a cup of tea, one or two drops is all you need. More than three or four will probably be too much.

Stevia has a different mouth feel than sugar, and it does linger. There's also a bitterness which you don't notice as much in coffee or tea. I got used to it after a while. I think I've seen some powdered versions that have erythritol in them so check your label.

I like monkfruit as a sweetener, but it tends to be more expensive than stevia. Both of them take getting used to. I use mostly stevia these days.

I haven't had that problem with liquid stevia. You can get it at any health food store. The brand I use is Stevita.

If it's pure, be careful not to use too much or you do get a weird flavor. I hear some brands are worse for that bitterness too. I use Trader Joes pure Stevia powder(no bitterness if used in tiny amounts), and I ruined a bowl of oatmeal putting just a tiny pinch too much. Still ate it lol. I've used Stevia in the Raw at a friends and its "cut"/ bulked up with maltodextrin so you're less likely to oversweeten on accident, its easier to use like regular sugar.

I don't know if truvia tastes the same as other stevia sweeteners, but the taste was bitter to me. I noticed it less in coffee made from milk, but tea I could not stand unless I cut it with splenda as it masked the taste from truvia
You may get used to it over time, or just try different ones til you find one you like.

I like stevia in things like greek yogurt, baking, and shakes...but I can't handle it in coffee or tea. I just enjoy those 30-40 calories from real sugar there.

Same here, I bought a huge bag of the stuff and am having trouble getting through it. It's tastes super bitter to me, not sweet at all, no matter how much or how little I use, and the aftertaste is horrible. It might just be one of those things that tastes different to different people, and also some brands and types might be better than others!

I use the Trader Joes extract, its very sweet. It only takes me 4 drops to a 12-16 oz cup of coffee. I don't get an aftertaste with it. Its a real extract made with alcohol and not mixed with anything else. I get no bitterness, even straight on my tongue, but very, very sweet.

If I want a little bit of sweetness, I just throw a leaf into what ever I am brewing...I have a bag from what I grew in the summer. Now I like bitter tea so I do steep it a while...but I have never noticed above the flavour off the tea.

Genetics. Some people find Stevia bitter, others do not.

With Stevia the dosage is critical. Too much or to little can be bitter. Each person is different so you'll just have to experiment. The Liquid form (glycinate) is also less bitter. :)
