Losing lbs but not inches?

Hey all! I've been trying to get back in shape for the past 2 months (I've had two babies in 2.5 years) and things have been going pretty smoothly. I decided to keep an eye on my measurements instead of concentrating too much on the scale; however, my waist or hips measurmentsare barely moving! I've lost about an inch off my waist and maybe a half inch of my hips. I am down 15 lbs though - what gives?! I am doing a combination of cardio and weight training... any suggestions to help me slim down/get more toned?

Sounds like you might be in a plateau... I would up my weights,(more weight trading than cardio) and have a cheat day or cheat meal... This will reset your metabolism and get it fired up!

Hi! First off, I don't think the previous poster is correct and I would not take that advice at all. I'll leave it to the seasoned MFP'ers to explain why.

You have lost an inch off your waist, half an inch off your hips and 15 lbs in 2 months! That to me is a big success. You are averaging nearly a 2 lb per week loss which is the maximum healthy amount recommended. Plus, you are clearly slimming down as evidenced by your measurements. You may be losing the fat from places you are not taking measurements, e.g. thighs, stomach area, different hip parts, arms, etc. I know I lost 4 inches off my 'stomach' - between what I call my 'upper hips' and my waist. My hip measurements also change differently - at my widest point (or 'lower hips'), I've lost very few inches. At just a couple of inches above (the 'upper hips'), I've lost more.

Whatever you are doing is working and I'd keep doing it!

    Good luck. x

You've lost 15 pounds and an inch off your waist . . . and you're complaining? I'm not sure what your expectations are here, but I'd say they seem skewed a bit. Maybe pat yourself on the back and just keep going?

    You can't reset metabolism.

I'm pleased with my results on the scale so far, actually I'm doing better than I thought. I guess where I'm coming from is usually I can see results from measurement before I see the results on the scale. Seems to be the opposite this time.

Sounds like you're doing great. Also, I didn't see you mention thigh, calf, or arm measurements. Don't forget you could have lost from these places as well.

I also measure both breast and underbreast and also right across my belly button. The belly is what I need to lose the most.

But hey you are doing something right if waist and hips are smaller and scale is lighter. Keep at it!

Good idea. Guess I got stuck on the areas that seem most important to me. Thanks!
