Quit Smoking & Weight Gain...........YIKES !

Hi ! I was just wondering if anyone here is has the same problem as me. I quit smoking 4 months ago and have gaine almost 20 pounds. I was almost at my goal weight when I quit!
At first I did snack a lot....but now I am not snacking as much.
Any suggestions on what I can do to get this weight off so I can quit thinking about taking up SMOKING AGAIN

i quit smoking jan23 2007 and it was the best thing i ever did. the day i found out i was pregnant i quit and never wanted another again. if you had a routine on when you had a smoke like right away in the mo rning? replace that with a pc of sugar free candy. after breakfast? anytime you had a smoke that was routine replace it with something else that is going to take your mind off of it. you have gone this far dont go back not its soooo not worth it..TRUST ME!! Yikes is right.......I know that feeling. I dont know which one is harder to give up.......the trick is finding something to do with your hands to take the place of the movement of smoking....or eating. :grumble: not much fun either way. Try playdo....i used my kids playdo to keep my hands busy , or a stress ball that you squeeze. When it got really bad I did some exercise for 10 or 15 min to take the craving away...I would run on the spot till I was over the craving...I hope it helps....:flowerforyou:

I quit smoking 2 years ago and over the next 24 months I gained 30lb, I managed to lose around 12lb in 6 months but it was very difficult but........since joining this site, I have lost 12lb in just over 2 weeks.
It's very true that quitting smoking causes weight gain, although my GP said that only around 8 - 12lb of gain is by actually quitting (what most people would gain who stop) and this wiould be lost anyway.....the rest of the weight you gain is by the fact that, everything tastes better so you want to eat more, couple this with the "I need something instead of a cig" mode and you can soon pile on the pounds.
My advice is........stick to the calorie plan here, excersice regularly and don't give up........it CAN be done as I have started to prove, I relly thought that I would never losee the extra weight.
A few things you need to remember......now you have quit, you smell better (no stale cig smell), you can smell better (things smell much nicer), you have increased your chances of a longer life (so you can enjoy more) and you will be much fitter (so you can do those excercises to lose the weight)

I quit recently as well and for me the "hand to mouth" habit is what I've had a hard time with. I've taken on a baby carrot habit. I also like pickles. Cucumber slices. Anything you can get that's like that. Low cal and almost doesn't even count as far as foods go. Try to find negative foods, thsoe are great for snacking.0

Tomorow is a fresh start for me.
I will not take up smoking again.
I am going to try some of your ideas.

when i quit i quit cold turkey and i didnt wanted to gain weit so i snacked on carrots,celery sticks fruits and lolli-pops0
