Homemade protein powder?

Weird question, but is anyone out there making their own protein powder? I've been trying out powders and shakes, but none of them have really done it for me. The only ones I really liked were the core power, but as far as I can tell they only come in pre made shakes. Some taste heinous, some give me migraines, some just don't deserve to exist! This quest is getting expensive, plus all of my friends are tired of me asking if they want the stuff I didn't like
Honestly, if I am mixing it into other delicious things like Greek yogurt or berry smoothies I might as well make an unflavored powder. Any success stories?

Try Promix unflavored. Protein from grass fed cows tastes infinitely better than the cheap stuff. It's going to run you $90 for 5lbs but it's still cheaper per gram of protein than meat or dairy. You really get what you pay for.
I will never buy another flavored protein powder again. I stick to unflavored with no addetives because it's way more versatile. You can cook with it, make all kinds of different shakes, add it to other dishes, sprinkle it on popcorn etc and it won't ruin your food.0 -
Maybe try plain dried egg whites (the kind that are made for baking)? Or dried whole egg, if you prefer? Or a plain concentrated whey powder? I use Bob's Red Mill whey protein concentrate, and mix it into hot cereal or smoothies/shakes, usually with other protein components like greek yogurt, kefir, skim milk, and/or partially defatted peanut meal (akin to PB2, without the sugar, salt, and pricey marketing).
I really don't know how you would "make your own" in a home kitchen -- you need to isolate protein from a food source like milk, eggs, soy, or other veggies, and dehydrate it, and granulate it...Seems like a lot of work, and probably would require equipment you don't have, and maybe even some chemical catalysts for isolating the protein (I'm just guessing there, as I really don't know how that's done)...0 -
Try using a blender or mini mixer? Make the shake with skim milk instead of water? Use almond water?
On Sundays, I grill chicken. That way I can always have lots of protein to much on during the week.
Walmart and Target have a 100% taste guarantee.
Just keep your receipt taped to the bag.
It's their guarantee. If you don't like anything you get your money back.
I think even GNC offers this.0 -
I'll try the pro mix, I found it on amazon for $78 with free shipping. I've also ordered some Bob's Red Mill Whey protein. I've give both of them a shot and go from there. Thanks for the recommendations.
I know realistically I could have returned the powders I didn't like, but I hate to be that person. It wasn't that they were bad or spoiled, just that they didn't agree with me. It's not worth a charge back to the company when it wasn't their fault I hated the taste or it gave me migraines. Lots of artificial flavorings and sweeteners make me sick (yay me, new foods are always a gamble), so this route seems like the best bet.0
