Is it okay to slip up?

I slipped up mentally pretty bad today. These past few weeks I finally felt truly happy about how I looked and the 42lbs that I lost. I didn't see a fat person in the mirror for once. Today, I still worked out and ate my usual calories, yet I got a glimpse of myself and felt very upset with what I saw. Now I'm feeling discouraged. It was nice being happy with my looks but now I'm worried I'll never be.

Is it okay to mentally slip up at times? Has it happened to you?

i mean like. i went over by 500 cal THREE times this week.
but it's still a hell of a lot better than what i would've eaten had i not been tracking at all.

every meal is a new beginning.
    just keep trying. ♥
  • it happens often, but then I go through lots of "self-talk" reminding myself of how far I've come, how many inches lost, how many pounds, sizes dropped....I often look at pictures from before I started this journey up to present day (almost 60 pounds lost) and I know how much better I look and FEEL. Just don't let the mental slip invade into your ditching the whole new you!

It happens. Take your picture and compare it to a old one. You will see how far you have come and that certainly should cheer you up. Be proud that you have lost 42 lbs (not a small achievement by any means). Keep it up.

Takes time to adjust , some good mental speak is thinking of all the things that are easier to do now , pop over to the success threads and have a read of one or two NSV , we all have little ones every week and noticing them can help you stay positive , oh and 1500 calories does not make for 48 lb gain . Log it move on perhaps you will not lose this week , but I bet you do next week

If that's what slipping up is, I do it about every other day

I think in any endeavor we make, it is in our nature to question our progress and ultimate goals. And we don't leave behind the insecurities either with the weight.

Ultimately our self worth is not in what we look like our how much we weigh, and if our minds and hearts don't accept that then pain is on the heels of those thoughts.

I can't give you permission to look at yourself critically, no one but you can. But I think what you're experiencing is normal and can be used to find a stronger sense of self worth.

Congratulations on the weight loss. Please take heart!

Of course it's okay, it's perfectly normal! Keep doing your thing and realize your feelings and thoughts aren't always true. Learn to recognize these negative thoughts as "brain spam" and don't engage them. I love, love, love meditation to help recognize but not engage the brain spam. Insight Timer is a good, free, app with guided meditations (Tara Brach, Devin Ashwood, Andy Hobson are all good beginner guides). Take care.

    Only if you are human.
